Softball Takes Extra Inning Win Over #12 Choctaws

Albertville, AL- LMU would take their first game of the weekend over #12 Mississippi College in eight innings by a score of 2-1.

Yet another battle in the circle would take place, as LMU's Halle Grace Patton and Mississippi College's Camryn Bailey would earn the starts. Lincoln Memorial would struggle to get the bats going in the contest. The back-and-forth would go both ways, the Choctaws also seeing only two hits through the first three. The top of the fourth would see LMU's first hit as second baseman Reese Vivrette stepped up and made contact down the left-field line. Her speed would give her the inside-the-park homer and the Splitters the early 1-0 lead. Despite leaving some on base, MC would struggle to cross any across the plate, coming down to the bottom of the seventh to stay alive. The Choctaws would find one Bailey now doing her job offensively with a homer to center.

Lincoln Memorial would hang on against the threat, keeping the score tied at 1-1 and pushing the game to extras. Per the extra inning rule, LMU would put Cassidy Hack on second as the ghost runner. Gracie Palmer would put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner, bringing Vivrette back up to the plate. Contact would be enough, as an errant throw would leave all runners safe, including Hack across the plate for the 2-1 advantage. Patton would step up and get back-to-back Ks and help the Splitters hold on for the win. She improves to 4-0 on the season and tallied eight strikeouts in the contest.

LMU moves to 4-1 on the season and will face Delta State tomorrow at 11 AM for day two of the contest.
