Harrogate, TN- (RV) LMU grabs two more wins on day one of Abe's Invitational at Dorothy Neely in Harrogate.Â
Lincoln Memorial would be the first to get on the board.
Anna Kate Reichter's bunt single would lead things off in the bottom of the first, stealing second and advancing to third.
Jordann Reagan would double to left to score her, giving the early 1-0 lead. Neither team would find any offensive rhythm until the top of the fifth. Elizabeth City State would score on a passed ball in the inning to even up the score. Back-to-back bunt singles in the bottom of the fifth would give runners on. Reagan would add another RBI to her tally with a sacrifice fly to score Reichter.
Hannah McMeen's single in the following at-bat would advance a runner, bringing up
Nicole Couvertiere. Her hit would score another, bringing the score to a 3-1 LMU lead. The bottom of the sixth would see Lincoln Memorial play a little small ball, advancing
Ryan Williams to second on a bunt after getting on via bunt single.
Kristin Griffin would be the one to score Williams, extending the lead to three runs.
Jasmine Kaylor would earn the complete game with the win, moving to 3-2 in her time on the circle and adding five more Ks to her resume.
Game two would see LMU face Bloomsburg. Both defenses would hold the other to two scoreless innings to start the contest. Reichter would get things started for the Splitters in the bottom of the third after drawing a walk, stealing second, and then rounding the bases via Griffin's double. Reagan would continue her day of contributions, singling on a bunt to score Griffin, making it 2-0 in favor of LMU. A couple more scoreless innings would go by before the Railsplitters would strike again. It would be Reichter again, earning a base hit to score
Gracie Palmer who had gotten walked earlier in the inning. Griffin would continue the trend, scoring Reichter and then crossing the plate herself thanks to
Hanna Bogoski's base hit. Bloomsburg would find a home run in the top of the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough as LMU would hang on and win 5-1. In the circle,
Halle Grace Patton picks up another complete game and moves to 10-2 on the season.
LMU improves to 14-5 on the year and will continue the Abe's Invitational tomorrow, March 2nd, at 2 PM against Lewis, and 4 PM against Elizabeth City State.
