Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial would go perfect at the Abe's Invitational, closing out the weekend with two more wins over Lewis, 1-0, and Elizabeth City State, 8-3, on Sunday.
After a scoreless first in game one,
Nicole Couvertiere would draw a walk at the bottom of the second. After stealing second and third, she'd later come across thanks to a hard-hit ball from
Gracie Palmer. That 1-0 score would be the story of the game as neither team could find a rhythm against the opposing pitcher.
Kristin Griffin would get the lone other hit in the game for the Splitters, but the pitching of Lewis's Garden would find themselves stopped short.
Halle Grace Patton would earn another complete game in route to her 11th win of the season, striking out nine in the process.
Game two would also begin slowly on offense, with LMU finding themselves down 0-3 going into the bottom of the third.
Anna Kate Reichter would earn a stand-up double to lead things off in the half inning.
Hanna Bogoski's contact would lead to an error, scoring Reichter and putting up the first LMU run of the contest.
Jordann Reagan would hit a soft chopper too short, giving LMU two on.
Hannah McMeen would take advantage, sending one over the left-field wall to take the lead 4-3 in exciting fashion. Griffin would step up in the next offensive frame and get aboard via hit-by-pitch. She would steal second and then advance thanks to contact from Bogoski. This time it would be
Ashlynn Watkins to bring her home, sending a single to right field and making the score 5-3. A fielder's choice would reach McMeen, eventually moving to second on the stolen base.
Cassidy Hack's RBI base hit would do the job, adding another insurance run for the Railsplitters.Â
Watkins would earn another base hit in the bottom of the sixth, McMeen stepping up and sending one to the wall to score another. McMeen would cross a batter later as Hack's contact would fall and extend the lead to five.
Aslynn Lupton would come in to close out the game in the circle, earning the last three outs in the top of the seventh.
Katie Fultz receives the victory in the game, moving to 2-1 on the season.
The Railsplitters advance to 16-5 on the season and will begin conference play this week against Emory & Henry on Tuesday, March 4th, with start times slated for 1 PM and 3 PM.
