#23 LMU Softball Splits Conference Opener Against (RV) Emory & Henry

Harrogate, TN- #23 Lincoln Memorial earns the split with (RV) Emory & Henry on Tuesday, taking the first 4-0 and dropping the second 0-3.

Lincoln Memorial would find some base runners early but struggle to get them across through three innings. Jordann Reagan would start things in the bottom of the fourth with a double down the left-field line. Cassidy Hack would come on as a pinch runner and be advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Contact from Nicole Couvertiere would be enough to plate Hack, giving LMU their first run and the 1-0 lead. The bottom of the fifth would see Ryan Williams leading things off with a hit, advancing to second via a sacrifice bunt, and then to third on an Anna Kate Reichter base hit. Reichter would take off to second, drawing a throw and opening it up for Williams to take home and put the Splitters up 2-0. Lincoln Memorial would turn to the bottom of the sixth to add more insurance, beginning with a Hannah McMeen single through the left side. Couvertiere would put two on after laying down a nice bunt to go for a hit. Contact from Alyssa Williams would advance them both, Ryan Williams being the one to score them with a base hit of her own. The 4-0 lead would be maintained by Halle Grace Patton and her defense, giving LMU their first conference win. Patton gives up just one hit in the complete game shutout victory.

Emory & Henry would strike first in the second game, plating two runs in the top of the second after a couple of hits. LMU would continue to strand runners, struggling to get anything going consecutively. Katie Fultz would come on in relief and keep the Wasps at bay, giving up only one run in her five innings of work. It wouldn't be enough, however, as LMU's offense would be unable to convert and keep the score 0-3, giving Reaves the win for E&H. LMU's Kristin Griffin would earn herself a multihit game, going 3-4 in her appearances at the plate.

The split moves LMU to 17-6 (1-1) on the season as they continue South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, March 8th, when they travel to Jefferson City, TN, to take on the Eagles of Carson-Newman at 1 PM and 3 PM.
