Game Recap: Softball |

#23 LMU Softball Falls to C-N on the Road

Jefferson City, TN- #23 LMU dropped the road series against Carson-Newman today, the power of the Eagles putting both just out of reach.

Game one would feature a strong start from the Railsplitters. Anna Kate Reichter would lead things off with a single, moving to second after Kristin Griffin would be hit at the plate. An error from the pitcher would load the bases for the Splitters. Jordan Reagan would put two on the board thanks to a single up the middle. Carson-Newman would add one in the bottom of the first but the Railsplitters would return to the plate in the top of the second to add another. This run would come from Gracie Palmer, hitting her first homer of the season to center field for the 3-1 LMU lead. The Eagles would find a couple in the bottom of the fourth to tie up the score but LMU would respond quickly.

Lincoln Memorial would have their first multi-home run game of the season after Alyssa Williams earned her first of the season in the top of the fifth. Ryan Williams would follow it up with a double down the line, crossing the next at-bat after Palmer would knock a double to left center. Anna Kate Reichter would earn her second hit of the day to score Palmer and put LMU back in front 6-3. Carson-Newman would again plate a couple, making the game 6-5 heading into the sixth. The Eagles would score on an LMU error to tie the game back up, the momentum being enough to fire them up and send a three-run homer to go in front 6-9. Another error and a couple of hits would cross two more, making it a 6-11 advantage, just out of reach for LMU with only three outs to work with.

Kristin Griffin would get things started in game two, hitting a single and advancing to second after Hanna Bogoski would be walked. Hannah McMeen would be the first with an RBI, singling through the right side. Nicole Couvertiere would step up and hit a single of her own up the middle, making the lead two after a half inning. Carson-Newman's momentum would keep rolling, the Eagles scoring five in the frame and following it with a four-run bottom of the second. McMeenwould add to her RBI total, homering to left center in the top of the third and adding another to LMU's tally. A few more crossed from C-N would make the hill too steep to climb, though, taking the game 13-2 and the series. The wins move Carson-Newman to 17-7 overall and 4-0 in SAC play.

LMU falls to 17-8 (1-3) on the season and will hit the road next week for a 1 PM/3 PM doubleheader on Wednesday, March 12th, in Hartsville, SC against Coker.
