Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne would each earn a victory in the softball doubleheader on Friday in Harrogate.Â
Lenoir-Rhyne would strike first, crossing two in the top of the first to put the pressure on the Splitters. The bottom half of the inning would see
Anna Kate Reichter find her way aboard in the lead-off spot.
Kristin Griffin would get hit in the following at-bat, giving a runner in scoring in position.
Hannah McMeen would take advantage, hitting a single down the middle to score Reichter and make it 1-2. After holding the Bears in the second, the Splitters would leave two on and come up empty to keep the score the same. Both sides would stay scoreless until LMU's return to the plate in the fifth. Reichter would draw the walk to lead things off in the inning.
Kristin Griffin would make the Bears pay, rocketing one over the wall on the left side to give Lincoln Memorial their first lead of the day.Â
LR would threaten, crossing one on an LMU miscue and then loading the bases with just one down. A force out at home would save a run, another force at third getting the team out of the inning with a tied ball game.
Brianna Baer would get aboard in the bottom half of the inning via a walk to get things started.
Gracie Palmer would advance her on a bunt, bringing LMU back to the top of the order. Reichter would be the one to score her, sending a shot over the left fielder to retake the advantage, 4-3. Griffin would get aboard also on a full-count walk, giving
Hanna Bogoski the chance to extend the lead after a hard hit ball to the second baseman to score Reichter.
Nicole Couvertiere would send one to right field, scoring two and giving LMU the 7-3 lead. A three-up three-down inning would end the game, giving LMU and
Halle Grace Patton another victory.Â
Reichter would earn the four-pitch leadoff walk in game two, Griffin getting hit right after to put two aboard in the bottom of the first.
Jordann Reagan would hit the sacrifice fly to score the run and give LMU the 1-0 lead. The Splitters would return to the plate in the bottom of the third, with a similar start as Reichter would draw a walk. Griffin would move her to second on the sacrifice bunt. LMU would have runners on the corners after contact from Bogoski, Bogo taking second on the steal a pitch later. Reagan would earn the RBI again, finding a gap through the left side to put LMU up 3-0. Lenoir-Rhyne would catch fire in the top of the fourth, scoring 11 and taking the lead. The Bears would add a couple more in the top of the fifth, forcing LMU to try and extend the game. The effort would come up short, handing LMU the split.
Lincoln Memorial moves to 20-9 on the season, 4-4 in conference play. Their series originally scheduled for Sunday against Lander has been canceled due to inclement weather, making LMU's next action their series doubleheader against Anderson on Tuesday, March 18th, at 1 PM/3 PM in Harrogate.Â
