Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the Coker Cobras Saturday evening on Senior Night 5-8.
Lincoln Memorial starts out the scoring with
Jenson Jones scoring the first goal of the match, unassisted with 10:08 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Cobras even up the score and take the lead by adding four goals to finish out the quarter: Ajemian with 9:02 remaining, Ford with 5:05 remaining, Ajemian with 3:00 remaining, and Ford with 1:51 remaining to make the score 4-1 going into the second quarter in favor of Coker.
The second quarter was back-and-forth in terms of scoring, with LMU putting the first goal up on the board as
Gavin Reid tallies his first goal of the match with 14:19 remaining, with
Brock Saunders earning the assist. Coker responds less than a minute later with Ajemain scoring with 13:30 remaining. At 8:47 remaining, Saunders gets a goal of his own with the assist coming from Jones. Coker gets the last say in the second as Rumbaugh scores with 6:40 remaining to make the score 6-3 with the Cobras in the lead.
Scoring for either team started late in the third, as the first goal of the quarter wasn't until 6:23 when Ajemian scored for Coker. The Railslpitters shortened the Cobras' lead with
Rhodes Conroy adding his first goal of the match with 4:43 remaining. With that being the only two goals in the third, Coker remains in the lead going into the fourth 8-4.
A little more than a minute into the final quarter, Coker extends the lead by Forehand scoring with 13:53 remaining. The next goal wouldn't happen until 1:48 remaining, when
Gavin Reid scores his first goal of the match with
Aiden Smith tallying the assist. With the Railsplitters unable to put any more points on the board, Coker takes the win 8-5.
Reid, Jones, and Saunders would all lead in points with 2, with Reid tallying 2 goals and Jones and Saunders recording 1 goal and 1 assist each. Conroy and Smith would finish the night with 1 point as Conroy recorded 1 goal and Smith would register 1 assist.
John Lombel and
Koen Burdette would both be the team-leaders in ground balls with 4 each, and Lombel would also lead in caused turnovers with 4.
Connor Fitzgibbon and
Jayden Herman would both earn time in goal, with Herman getting 5 saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 42 shots, with 16 of them being on goal, 8 face-offs won, 21 successful clears, 10 caused turnovers, and 20 ground balls.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moves to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Their match will be at home on Wednesday, March 19
th against Anderson at 1 pm.
