Men's Lacrosse Falls To Anderson

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the #15 Anderson Trojans Wednesday afternoon 12-15.

Anderson was the first to put a goal on the board, with Perry scoring 11:51 and Bitterman (Badraun) adding a goal with 11:24 to make the score 2-0. The Railsplitters respond by adding a goal with 8:42 remaining, with Rhodes Conroy scoring is first goal of the match. Anderson responds by posting a 6 goal run: Dixon with 8:32 remaining, Bitterman (Sparks) with 6:06 remaining and 3:09 remaining, Fenchak with 2:00 remaining, Sparks (Deutsch) with 1:17 remaining, and Deutsch with 0:49 remaining to make the score 8-1 going into the second quarter.

In the second, Lincoln Memorial was the first to score with Alex Winters posting his first goal of the match with a man-up goal with Gavin Reid tallying his first assist with 14:37 remaining. The Trojans quickly put up a goal to respond with Rush scoring with 14:01 remaining. It was back and forth as LMU responded with a goal with Reid's second goal of the match with 13:26 remaining with Conroy earning is first assist. Anderson would extend their lead by 5 goals to finish out the second half: Rogers (Pagnotta) with 13:10 remaining, Rogers (Morgenroth) with 10:37 remaining, Bitterman (Fenchak) with 5:44 remaining, Sparks (Kirchhofer) with 0:40 remaining, and Bitterman (Kirchhofer) with 0:27 remaining to make the match 3-14 at halftime.

The third half was better for Lincoln Memorial as they scored as many goals in the third as they did the entire first half. The scoring began with Anderson posting 3 goals before the 10 minute mark: Deutsch with 14:08 remaining, Bitterman (Sparks) with 13:37 remaining, and Deutsch (Morgenroth) with 11:37 remaining. The Railsplitters were able to shorten Anderson's lead, first by Gavin Reid with 8:40 remaining and then by a man up goal by Rhodes Conroy with 6:13 remaining to make the score 5-17. The Trojans would then respond by scoring 3 more goals: Lopez (Dixon) with 5:39 remaining, Deutsch (Badraun) with 4:24 remaining, and Calabrese with 2:55 remaining. LMU would finish out the quarter with one last goal, as Alex Winters adds his first goal of the match with 0:05 remaining with Ashton Wilson tallying his first assist , bringing the score to 6-20 going into the fourth and final quarter. 

The fourth quarter would be the only quarter where Lincoln Memorial outscores Anderson. The Railsplitters put up the first goal in the fourth as Jenson Jones records his first goal of the match with 14:03 remaining, unassisted. A minute later with 13:09 remaining, Winters registers the hat trick with his third goal of the match. It wouldn't be until 12:55 remaining where Anderson would post their first goal of the quarter as Steinbrecher scores. Lincoln Memorial begins a 4-0 scoring run as Jones records his second goal of the match, with Reid posting his second assist, followed by Jack Snider's first goal with 9:47 remaining, unassisted. Not even a minute later, Jacob Scholz would tally his first match goal with 9:00 remaining with Calix Simonson getting his first career assist. Winters would score his fourth goal of the match with 8:03 remaining to bring the score to 12-21. Anderson would respond with a 4-0 run of their own to finish the match: Kirchhofer (Huls Jr) with 7:17 remaining, Bitterman (Rodgers) with 6:21 remaining, Kirchhofer (Turner) with 3:35 remaining, and Watson (Winpisinger) with 0:05 remaining. Despite LMU's high scoring fourth quarter, Anderson extended the lead enough to give them the win 12-25.

Reid and Winters would lead in points with 4, as Reid registers 2 goals and 2 assists and Winters tallies 4 goals. Conroy would be next with 3 points for 2 goals and 1 assist, and Jones would follow with 2 points for 2 goals. Simonson, Wilson, Snider, and Scholz would all record 1 points with Simonson and Wilson getting 1 assist each and Snider and Scholz scoring 1 goal each. John Lombel would lead in ground balls with a career-high 12, and he would also lead in caused turnovers with 3. Haden Berry would win 8/18 face offs and Brixten McKenzie would win 9/22. Connor Fitzgibbon would earn 8 saves and Jayden Herman would record 9 saves.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial would record 44 shots, with 30 on goal, 28 successful clears, 34 ground balls, and 17 won face offs.

With the loss, LMU moves to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the SAC.

Their next match will be on Saturday, March 22nd as they host #9 Lenoir-Rhyne.
