Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tusculum

Greeneville, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeats the Tusculum Pioneers 3-0 Tuesday evening to extend their win streak to 8 and sweep streak to 7.

The Pioneers had the lead for the majority of the first set, but a 9-3 run at the end of the set puts LMU in front and gives the Railsplitters the win for set one 25-23. The Railsplitters took a quick lead in the beginning of the second, and although Tusculum attempted to fight back, LMU kept the lead throughout the second and secured set two 25-17. Set three was a battle in the beginning, as the set had 11 ties and 3 lead changes, but a 11-1 run by the Railspitters at the end the set gave LMU the win for set three and the overall match sweep 3-0.

Matthew Gentry and Eliel Salva Torres both led in kills on the night with 9 each, and Salva Torres had the highest attack percentage of the night with a .750 attack percentage for 9 kills and 0 errors. John Luers was the team-leader in assists with 33, and Gentry led in service aces with 3. Defensively, Johan Negron and Griffin Wheatley both led in digs as they each recorded 6 digs, with Wheatley also leading in blocks with 5, accounting for 1 solo block and 4 block assists.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial posted a .303 attack percentage in the first, .476 attack percentage in the second, and a .500 attack percentage of the third for an overall match attack percentage of .410. The Railsplitters also recorded 57 points, 40 kills, 10 aces, 7 blocks, 34 assists, and 24 digs.

With the win, LMU improves to 15-1 overall to extend their win streak to 8 and to make their 3-0 sweep streak to 7 games.
