Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball defeats the North Greenville Trailblazers Friday night in three sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) for their 8th consecutive sweep and their 9th straight win of the season.
The first set was a battle, with each team rallying some lengthy runs, but ultimately a 6-2 run after LMU's 13th point gave the Railsplitters enough of a lead to secure set one 25-20. The second set was quite the opposite as LMU had the lead for the entirety of the set. With help of Lincoln Memorial's highest attack percentage of the night being in set 2, the Railsplitters took set two 25-19. The third set was almost like the first, as there was 6 ties and 3 lead changes in the third, the highest all night. As NGU had 6 attack errors in the third, Lincoln Memorial took set three 18-25, giving LMU the match win 3-0.
Griffin Wheatley led the team in kills on the night with 12 kills, and
Eliel Salva Torres posted a team-high 0.900 attack percentage for 9 kills and 0 errors.
John Luers was the team-leader in assists with 35.
Matthew Gentry, Luers, and Wheatley tied for the team-high in digs as they each had 4 . Gentry and Salva Torres both led the night in blocks with 3 each, as Gentry posted 1 solo block and 2 block assists and Salva Torres registered 3 block assists. Gentry recorded a team-high of 2 service aces.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial posted 52 points, 41 kills, 5 service aces, 6 blocks, 37 assists, and 19 digs.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 16-1 on the season.
Their next match will be on Friday, April 4th as they travel to Wilson, NC to face Barton College at 7 pm.
