Newark, NJ – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team sweeps NJIT in three 3-0 (25-22, 25-29, 25-23) for their 6
th consecutive win, their 5
th consecutive sweep, and their 13
th win of the season.
The first set was a battle, as NJIT had the lead until the Highlander's 11
th point. Then LMU had a couple 3-0 runs towards the end of the set to give them set 1 25-22. Lincoln Memorial had the lead for the entire second set, but a 6-1 run gave them enough of a lead for the Railsplitters to secure the second set 25-19. Once again NJIT had the lead until the 11
th point, then a couple of ties. After that a 6-1 LMU run allowed Lincoln Memorial to take the lead and win the third set 25-23 for the match win 3-0.
Today's win would be the 5
th consecutive sweep for the Railsplitters.
Three players led in the kill category:
Matthew Gentry,
Axel van Baars, and
Griffin Wheatley all led the afternoon in kills with 8 each, with Gentry posting the highest attack percentage with 8 kills and only 1 error for a .636 attack percentage.
John Luers led in assists with 30, and Gentry tallied the only 2 service aces of the match for LMU. Luers nearly registered double-digits in digs with team-high 9.
Eliel Salva Torres led in blocks with 6, accounting for 1 solo block and 5 block assists.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 49.5 points, 35 kills, 2 service aces, 12 blocks, 34 assists, and 30 digs.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 13-1 on the season.
Their next match they will travel a short way to Bristol, TN to face King University on Wednesday, March 5
th at 6 pm.
