Women's Lacrosse Comes Out Short Against Lenoir-Rhyne

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team falls to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon 7-18.

Unlike matches in the past, scoring for either team didn't begin until halfway through the first quarter, as Lenoir Rhyne's Olson scored the first goal with 8:05 remaining in the first, followed by Christenson less than a minute later with 7:41 remaining, both unassisted. Lincoln Memorial wasn't far from scoring, as Amber Kirkpatrick scores the first goal for LMU with 6:57 remaining. The next two minutes were scoreless, as the next goal scored would be Mikesell scoring from L-R with 4:47 remaining and Richardson with 4:02 remaining. The Railsplitters would respond with another goal, this time from Josie Tinnerello with 2:55 remaining in the first, with Kirkpatrick earning the assist. The Bears would have the last say in the first as Campbell scored with 1:45 remaining, making the score 2-5 going into the second quarter with Lenoir-Rhyne in the lead.

LMU would gain some momentum in the second as they put up 2 goals in less than 2 minutes, with the first goal coming from Kirkpatrick, which is her second goal of the match, with the assist coming from Jalee Davis wit 14:33 remaining. Less than a minute later, Jaedyn Ryba would post her first goal of the match with 13:40 remaining, unassisted. The next 3 goals would come from the Bears: Christenson with 11:18 remaining, Richardson with 9:30 remaining, and Christenson with 4:56 remaining. Lincoln Memorial would also have the final say in the second as they put up their 5th goal of the match, with the goal coming from Jaiden Jaynes and the assist coming from Abby Durkin with 0:19 second remaining in the second to bring the score to 5-8 going into halftime.

The third quarter would be all Lenoir-Rhyne as they scored a 5-0 run: Olson with 13:28 and 13:01 remaining, Richardson (Campbell) with 12:10 remaining, Burghardt (Christenson) with 8:21 remaining, and Burghardt with 6:06 remaining. With those being the only goals in the third, the score going into the fourth and final quarter would be 5-13 with the Bears in the lead.

L-R would be the first to score in the fourth, as Richardson posts a goal with 13:49 remaining, followed up by a goal by Olson with 12:07 remaining. LMU would put up their first goal of the fourth quarter with 9:33 remaining as Tinnerello registers a man-down goal, unassisted. The Bears would respond by extending their lead by 3 more goals: Olson with 8:58 remaining, Burghardt with 4:41 remaining, an Newton with 3:10 remaining. Tinnerello would score her second goal of the quarter and the last goal of the match with 1:20 remaining in the fourth, with Ryba earning the assist. The final score would be 7-18 with Lenoir-Rhyne taking the win.

Tinnerello and Kirkpatrick would both lead in points with 3, as Kirkpatrick posts 2 goals and 1 assist and Tinnerello scores team-high 3 goals. Samantha Billingsley and Amber Kirkpatrick would both be the team-leaders in ground balls with 3 each. Billingsley, Ryba, and Ryan Smith would all lead in caused turnovers with 3 each, and Davis and Tinnerello would both lead in draw controls with 3 each. Keegan Gillman and Elle Miller would both earn time in goal, with Miller recording 6 saves and Gillman registering 3.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 22 shots, with 13 of them being on goal, 12 successful clears, 17 ground balls, and 11 draw controls.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moves to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the SAC.

Their next match will be on Saturday March 29th as they travel to Salisbury, NC to face Catawba at 11 am.
