Women's Lacrosse Defeats Indians

Salisbury, NC - The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team defeats the Catawba Indians Saturday afternoon for their 3rd SAC win of the season. 

The Railsplitters quickly ot things started in the first quarter, as this was LMU's highest scoring quarter of the match. Josie Tinnerello gets things started for Lincoln Memorial with 10:41 remaining as she scores her first goal of the match. Catawba quickly responds with Better (Bailie) adding their first goal with 10:26 remaining. About 2 minutes later, Tinnerello gives herself the brace as she records her second goal of the match with 8:24 remaining, with Amber Kirkpatrick earning her first assist. Less than a minute later, Kirkpatrick would go from getting the assist to scoring a goal of her own as she registers a goal with 7:48 remaining, unassisted. The scoring streak continues for Lincoln Memorial as Jaiden Jaynes posts her first goal of the match, with Kirkpatrick tallying her second assist. LMU would score 3 goals within the last 3 minutes of the match, with Tinnerello scoring her third and fourth goal with 2:39 and 1:41 remaining, both unassisted. Jaynes would finish out the quarter by securing a brace with 0:52 remaining in the first, making the score 7-1 going into the second quarter with the Railsplitters in the lead. 

Lincoln Memorial would also have the first say in the second quarter as Kirkpatrick also gets the brace as she scores her second goal of the match wit h 10:34 remaining, with Breanna Booth earning her first assist. After getting her first assist, Booth would then tally her first goal of the match with 7:17 remaining as Briana Martinez gets the assist. Tinnerello would record her fifth goal of the match with 6:06 remaining, unassisted. McKenzie Cates would add her name to the box score as she tallies her first goal, with Booth earning her second assist of the match with 3:08 remaining.With Catawba unable to score in th second, the score going into halftime would be 11-1 with the Ralsplitters with the double-digit lead. 

The Indians would add their first goal of the quarter with 13:004 remaining in the third quarter as Deal scores. LMU would take over the rest of the third quarter, as Jalee Davis adds her first goal to the scoreboard with 12:21 remaining, unassisted. After 7 scoreless minutes, Jaynes would post a hat trick as she scores her third goal of the match with 5:25 remaining. Tinnerello would add the last goal of the quarter 3 minutes later with 2:33 remaining for her 6th goal of the match. The score going into the fourth quarter would be 14-2 with LMU in the lead. 

Like the third, Catawba would be the first to score in the fourth, with Sorvillo recording a goal with 8:29 remaining. Lainey Hockersmith would tally her first goal of the match with 5:15 remaining, and Kirkpatrick would score the last goal of the match as she posts a brace with her second goal of the match with 1:24 remaining. The final score would be 16-3 with LMU taking the win.

Tinnerello would finish the day leading in points with 6, accounting for 6 goals. Kirkpatrick would be behind her with 5 points for 3 goals and 2 assists. Booth and Jaynes would both finish with 3 points each, with Booth recording 1 goal and 2 assists and Jaynes scoring 3 goals. Martinez, Davis, Cates, and Hockersmith would all finish with 1 point each, with Martinez adding 1 assist and Davis, Cates, and Hockersmith all tally 1 goal. Delaney Duck would be the team-leader in ground balls with 4, and Davis would lead the team in caused turnovers with 3. Samantha Billingsley would finish with team-high 4 draw controls, and Keegan Gillman would earn herself 7 saves. 

As a team, Lincoln Memorial would record 36 shots, with 27 being on goal, 18 successful clears, 26 ground balls, and 11 draw controls. 

With the win, LMU improves to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play. 

Their next match will be a short trip up the road from Harrogate as they travel to Greeneville, TN to face Tusculum on Wednesday, April 2nd at 6 pm.
