Women's Lacrosse Comes Out On Top Against Pioneers

Greeneville, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team defeat the Pioneers of Tusculum Wednesday evening 15-8 for their 4th SAC win of the season.

The Railsplitters started scoring quickly  as Jalee Davis records her first goal of the match with 13:19 remaining with the assist coming from Jaedyn Ryba. Tusculum responded quickly as  Stack scores a minute later with 12:38 remaining. The next couple minutes were scoreless until 7:48 remaining when Jaiden Jaynes tallies her first goal of the match with Breanna Booth earning the assist. With the remainder of the match scoreless, the score going into the second quarter would be 2-1 with Lincoln Memorial in the lead.

Scoring in the second quarter didn't begin until 10:50 remaining when Amber Kirkpatrick extended LMU's lead to 2 goals with Booth earning her second straight assist. The scoring continued for the Railsplitters as Ryan Smith scores her first goal of the match as a free-position goal with 8:32 remaining, unassisted. The Pioneers shorten Lincoln Memorial's lead as Carolin-Vandenberg adds a goal with 7:10 remaining in the second. Six minutes later, Tusculum cuts the deficit in half as Tantillo (Bourne) scores with 1:03 remaining. As that was the last goal scored in the second quarter, the score going into halftime would be 4-3 with LMU in the lead.

Lincoln Memorial scored more goals in the third quarter than they did the entire first half. Davis gets things started for LMU right off the draw control as she tallies the brace with her second goal of the match with 14:49 remaining with Jaynes earning herself the assist. Tusculum scores quickly after with 14:13 remaining with Bourne adding a goal. Jaynes then scores a pair of goals to secure the hat trick on the evening, with her first goal at 12:45 remaining and her second with 11:18 remaining as a free position goal, both unassisted. The Pioneers add a goal a minute later with Didzbalis scoring, and Jaynes records her fourth goal of the match with 7:08 remaining. Josie Tinnerello adds herself to the box score as she records her first goal of the match with 6:36 remaining. Three minutes later, Tusculum's Didzbalis adds another goal with 3:20 remaining.  With 2:33 remaining, Tinnerello secures the brace with her second goal of the match, with McKenzie Cates earning herself her first assist. Kirkpatrick records the last goal of the quarter as she scores with just 0:04 remaining and Booth getting her third assist. With that being the last goal scored in the third, the score going into the fourth and final quarter would be 11-6 with the Railsplitters in the lead.

The Pioneers are the first to score in the fourth quarter, as Halladay scores with 12:27 remaining. Kirkpatrick joins Jaynes with 4 goals on the day as she records back-to-back goals in a span of two minutes: her first goal wit 9:54 remaining and Booth earning her fourth assist, and her second goal with 8:10 remaining with Abby Durkin tallying her first assist. Tinnerello records the hat trick with 7:38 remaining to extend the lead to 7. Less than a minute later, Durkin registers her first goal of the match with 6:59 remaining and Tinnerello tallying her first assist. Tusculum shortens LMU's lead as Sherood (Bourne) scores a goal  with 4:08 remaining. Despite the Pioneers' attempts to catch up, the Railsplitters take the win 15-8.

Jaynes led the team in points on the evening with 5 as she recorded 4 goals and 1 assist. Kirkpatrick, Booth, and Tinnerello all posted 4 points each, with Kirkpatrick recording 4 goals, Tinnerello registering 3 goals and 1 assist, and Booth posting 4 assists. Davis and Durkin each had 2 points with Davis scoring 2 goals and Durkin getting a goal and an assist. Smith, Cates, and Ryba all finished the night with 1 point, with Smith scoring a goal and Cates and Ryba tallying 1 assist each.

Keegan Gillman led the team in ground balls with 5 and also recorded 4 saves. Jaynes and Brookelyn Walls both were the team-leaders in caused turnovers with 2 each, and Samantha Billingsley had a team-high 9 draw controls.

As a team, LMU recorded 36 shots, with 28 of them on goal, 18 successful clears, 17 ground balls, 18 draw controls, 10 caused turnovers, and 5 free position opportunities, with 3 of them resulting in a goal.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the SAC.

Their next match will be on Saturday, April 5th as they host Wingate at 12 pm at LMU Lacrosse Complex.
