Greeneville, TN- Lincoln Memorial would earn dominant wins over #17 Tusculum in midweek softball action, taking the first 5-1 and the second by a score of 18-3.
Neither team would find any space for a hit through the first two innings of play.
Alyssa Williams would be the one to change that in the top of the third, finding some space through the infield for a base hit.
Brianna Baer would lay down the bunt to move her to second,
Gracie Palmer later advancing Williams to third on a dribbler in the infield.
Anna Kate Reichter would break the tie, sending one to the right-center gap and giving LMU the 1-0 lead. Tusculum would tie it up in the bottom half of the inning on a Lincoln Memorial miscue, but
Hanna Bogoski would step up in the top of the next inning, advancing to second and then third, both on past balls.
Hannah McMeen's double down the line would cross Bogo, putting LMU back up 2-1.Â
Bogo would keep her good day going in the top of the sixth, finding the right-field line for a double.
Jordann Reagan would switch places with her, doubling to left center and making the score 3-1 in favor of the Splitters. McMeen would continue the momentum, finding space in right and throwing it back to Little League, scoring on the contact (via triple and a throwing error).
Nicole Couvertiere and Williams would make their way on also, putting two on with still just one out. Baer would then draw a walk, loading the bases for Lincoln Memorial. TU would get out of the pickle with a 1-2-3 double play, but not before the lead was extended to 5-1. The Splitters would find themselves in a bit of a jam in the bottom of the sixth, but solid defense and pitching would get them out of it and take it to the seventh with the same score. The Pioneers would cross one after a contested play at the plate, but
Halle Grace Patton and company would hang on to get the ranked win.Â
Game two would see a hot start for the Splitters.
Kristin Griffin and
Hanna Bogoski's back-to-back singles in the top of the first would set things up for Reagan to return to the plate and score them both. Tusculum's second error of the inning off of contact from McMeen would score Reagan, giving LMU the 3-0 after one. Baer's double down the line in the second would give LMU another runner in scoring position, making that two after Griffin would walk and then steal second later in the inning. Another error from the Pioneers would cross both and extend the lead to five; McMeen's single making it six shortly after. TU's two-run frame in the bottom of the second would close the gap slightly, but the Splitters would split open the game in the following half-inning.
Alyssa Williams would start things off with a single, being followed by an AK Reichter single to score her. Griffin's base hit would then give LMU two on, allowing Bogoski to earn her second triple of the day to score both. A walk issued to Reagan would tee it up for McMeen to knock a two-RBI triple of her own, later scoring on
Nicole Couvertiere's double to left. The Splitters would get runners on the corners after a Williams single, getting one run out of Couvertiere thanks to Baer's right-field single.Â
The 13-2 lead would be extended in the fourth, starting with back-to-back singles by Griffin and Bogoski. Reagan's RBI single would score Griffin and then set up a bases-loaded situation after McMeen's walk in the following at-bat. Couvertiere and Williams would tally two more singles in the 6/7 spots, tacking on a run each and keeping the bases loaded. Baer's contact would add another, bringing up
Gracie Palmer to send a single to left and score LMU's 18th run of the day. The Pioneers would only find one run in the bottom of the fifth to give an 18-3 final score, giving
Jasmine Kaylor the complete game run-rule victory in the circle.Â
#17 Tusculum falls to 30-6 (9-5) as LMU improves to 24-11 (8-4) on the year. The Splitters will return home on Saturday, March 29th, for a doubleheader against Mars Hill, scheduled for 1 PM and 3 PM at the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex.
