Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial Softball will drop both games in the series against Mars Hill on Saturday.Â
LMU would find a couple of baserunners in the first inning but they would be stranded to start the contest. They wouldn't make the same mistake in the second, as
Nicole Couvertiere would start things off with a bunt single.
Alyssa Williams would be next, drawing the walk to give two aboard and no one out. A sacrifice bunt from Baer would advance both runners and bring up
Gracie Palmer to hit a sacrifice fly and score Couvertiere for the first run of the game.
Anna Kate Reichter would be the one to score Williams, finding some space down the left-field line for a stand-up RBI double, giving LMU the 2-0 lead. Mars Hill would use a couple of Railsplitter miscues to get some momentum, putting up a three spot in the top of the third and taking the lead. LMU would struggle to find any offense to mount a comeback as MHU's two-run spot in the top of the seventh would put the game just out of reach of the Splitters.
The Lions would come out swinging in game two, crossing three runs in the top of the third thanks to two homers. LMU would struggle on the offensive side to get many runners aboard or around. Six more in the top of the third and another added in the top of the fourth would put LMU in a 0-10 deficit. Another would be tacked on in the fifth by the Lions, forcing LMU to try and extend the game.
Gracie Palmer,
Kristin Griffin, and
Hanna Bogoski would all get aboard in the bottom of the seventh, allowing
Jordann Reagan to step up and get the two RBI double, but the effort would fall short, leaving the game with a final 2-11 score.Â
The Railsplitters fall to 24-13 on the year, 8-6 in conference play and will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 1st, for a road doubleheader against the Newberry Wolves.Â
