Lincoln Memorial Softball Earns the Road Sweep over Newberry in Impressive Offensive Showing

Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial Softball swept the Wolves of Newberry College today in a monster day of offense in both wins.

Anna Kate Reicther would start things off, getting on base via a Wolves error, and finding her way to third on the miscue. Contact from Hanna Bogoski would score Reichter, giving LMU the early 1-0 lead. Newberry's response would be quick, evening up the score in the bottom half of the first frame. Brianna Baer's single in the top of the second would start a response by the Splitters. Reicther's second time up would result in a single, advancing Baer to second and being the first of back-to-back-to-back base hits. Kristin Griffin's would be the second of that sequence, loading the bases as Bogoski would step in. Her RBI single would give LMU the 2-1 lead with the bases still loaded, allowing Jordann Reagan to draw her second walk of the day and earn an RBI on the at-bat as the lead would become 3-1. The top half of the third would see Baer score again after she would get aboard on her second hit of the day and be brought around from a single via Gracie Palmer in the next at-bat.

Griffin's second hit of the day would open up the top of the fifth and begin another sequence for the Railsplitters. Bogoski's day would only get better, stepping into the box in the next at-bat and sending one over the center field wall to make it 6-1 in favor of LMU. McMeen would get on aboard later on in the inning, Nicole Couvertiere following to give the Splitters two aboard. Alyssa Williams would earn the RBI single next up as the hitting carousel would continue for Lincoln Memorial. After a walk issued to Baer, the bases would be loaded once again, just in time for Palmer to step in and cross another from her sacrifice fly ball. Palmer would also be the one to add another for LMU, stepping up in the top of the sixth and pulling one over the left field wall for a two-out solo home run. A walk issued to Reichter would bring up Griffin to tack on another through an RBI double of her own. Bogoski's fourth hit of the day would make it an 11-1 lead and improve her to a 3-4 performance. The hitting party would continue, Reagan stepping up in the next at-bat and launching one over the wall to make that a 12-run advantage. Newberry's one run in the bottom of the sixth would make the score 13-2 but it wouldn't be enough to extend the game, giving LMU the run-rule victory. Halle Grace Patton gets the win in the circle, moving to 18-6 on the season.

Game two would see LMU keep the momentum going. Three straight walks would load the bases to start the first, Reagan stepping up and taking advantage with a two-RBI single. Baer would draw a walk later in the inning to go down as an RBI also, making it 3-0 Splitters. Another back-to-back-to-back hit sequence from Reichter, Griffin, and Bogoski would load the bases in the top of the second, teeing it up for Reagan to send her second bomb of the day over the wall, putting LMU up 7-0. Hannah McMeen and Couvertiere would keep the inning going with consecutive hits of their own following the grand slam, forcing Newberry to make a pitching change. Williams and Baer wouldn't flinch, both earning hits of their own and aiding in two more runs crossing the plate. The Wolves would see their first run in the bottom of the second, but a few more hits from the meat of the LMU lineup in Bogo, Reagan, and McMeen would extend the lead back to nine. Another run from Newberry would force the game past five innings, but Baer's RBI single in the top of the sixth would give LMU the 11-3 lead. Newberry's base-clearing hit plus contact to score another in the bottom of the sixth would make it 11-7 and extend the game to seven. Aslynn Lupton, Jasmine Kaylor, and Patton would combine time in the circle for the victory, Lupton earning her first win of the season.

Lincoln Memorial moves to 26-13 (10-6) on the year as Newberry falls to 20-23 (8-8). The Railsplitters will face Catawba next, traveling to Salisbury, NC on Saturday, April 5th, for a 2 PM/4 PM doubleheader.
