Men's Lacrosse Falls to Catawba

Salisbury, NC - The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the Indians of Catawba Saturday afternoon. 

Catawba starts out the scoring for the match with Cetrone scoring with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter. The next goal would not be scored until under the 3-minute mark, as the Indians score again with Dash adding a goal with 2:25 remaining. The Railsplitters put themselves on the board with 1:35 remaining as Koen Burdette adds his first goal of the match. The score going into the second quarter would be 2-1 with Catawba in the 1 goal lead. 

The second quarter would be all Catawba as they extend their lead by 4 goals throughout the quarter: Cetrone (Turner) with 14:15 remaining, Braswell with 13:20 remaining, Mercer with 4:31 remaining, and Hart eith 3:40 remaining. With Lincoln Memorial unable to score in the second, the score going into halftime would be 6-1 with the Indians in the lead. 

LMU would score more goals in the third quarter than in the entire first half. Catawba gets things started with Lindsey adding a goal with 13:49 remaining. The Railsplitters would shorten Catawba's lead by adding 2 more goals to the board. Rhodes Conroy would add his first goal of the match with 12:53 remaining as Evan Weis tallies his first assist. Burdette would secure the brace as he scores LMU's 3rd goal with 10:48 remaining, unassisted. 5 minutes later, the Indians would extend their lead with Dash scoring with 5:47 remaining and Cetrone with 5:09 remaining to make the score 9-3. Lincoln Memorial would have the final say in the third as Jenson Jones records his first goal of the match with 2:58 remaining, unassisted. The score going into the final quarter would be 9-4 with Catawba in the lead. 

The fourth would be where the Indians really take the lead. The Indians start out the scoring with Hart adding a goal with 13:14 remaining. Less than minute later, Burdette would secure the hat trick as he scores with 12:34 remaining, unassisted. Domenico Moscato would then tally his first goal of the match with 10:48 remaining, with Jacob Scholz earning the assist. Catawba would would then add 2 more goals: Stout with 10:08 remaining and Lindsey with 7:06 remaining. LMU would score their last goal of the match as Burdette makes his goal count 4 as he records a goal with 4:54 remaining. Catawba would then secure the lead by adding 2 more goals in the last 5 minutes: Trzeciak with 4:41 remaining, and Clarke with 2:28 remaining. The final would be 7-14 with Catawba taking the win. 

Burdette would finish the day leading in points with 4 for 4 goals. Conroy, Moscato, Jones, Weis, and Scholz would all finish with 1 point, as Moscato, Conroy, and Jones score 1 goal each and Weis and Scholz tally 1 assist each. Connor Fitzgibbon would earn himself 9 saves. 

As a team, Lincoln Memorial would record 41 shots, with 29 being on goal, 31 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, 12 face offs won, and 18 successful clears. 

With the loss, LMU moves to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play. 

Their next match will be on Wednesday, April 2nd as they travel to Greeneville, TN to face Tusculum at 3 pm.
