Gaffney, SC – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team falls to the Limestone Saints Wednesday evening 7-15.
Lincoln Memorial was the first on the board as
Amber Kirkpatrick adds her first goal of the match with 13:17 remaining, with
Breanna Booth earning the assist. About a minute later with 12:01 remaining in the first, LMU extends their lead as
Josie Tinnerello tallies a goal, assisted by Kirkpatrick. Limestone then responds by tying the match and taking the lead as they score 5 goals: J Martin with 10:54 remaining, K Martin with 5:25 remaining, Jones with 1:55 remaining, K Martin with 1:24 remaining, and Hjertaas with 0:28 remaining. The Saints take the lead 2-5 going into the second quarter.
Limestone has the first say in the second quarter, as Hjertaas records a goal with 13:17 remaining. Lincoln Memorial then pulls it together offensively and nets in 4 goals to tie up the match, starting with
Payton Arline registering her first goal of the season as a free-position shot with 12:05 remaining. Kirkpatrick and Booth then link up again with 9:09 remaining, as Kirkpatrick scores her second goal and Booth getting her second assist of the match. The next goal to go up on the board will come from Tinnerello as a free-position shot with 7:52 remaining. Tinnerello would then add her third goal of the match not even a minute later of scoring her second with 7:18 remaining, with Kirkpatrick earning her second assist. The Saints would then post 2 more goals to tie up the match: Hjertaas with 2:32 remaining, and Rycroft with 1:52 remaining to tie up the match 6-6 going into halftime.
The only thing that would come out of the third quarter would be 3 goals from Limestone to make the lead 6-11: Hjertaas with 13:02 remaining, and 2 goals from Jones with 6:21 remaining and 0:38 remaining.
Limestone would score 3 more goals before Lincoln Memorial would score again. The first Saints' goal would come from K Martin with 12:37 remaining, followed by 2 goals from Hjertaas with 10:32 remaining and 3:36 remaining. The last LMU goal would come from Booth with 2:54 remaining, with the assist coming from Tinnerello. Limestone would secure their win by adding their last goal with 1:57 remaining, scored by Hjertaas and assisted by Jones, giving the Saints the win 7-15.
Tinnerello and Kirkpatrick would both lead in points with 4 each, with Tinnerello tallying 3 goals and 1 assist and Kirkpatrick posting 2 goals and 2 assists. Booth would be behind them with 3 points, accounting for 1 goal and 2 assist. Arline would finish out the points for LMU with 1 point for 1 goal.
Keegan Gillman would be the team-leader in ground balls with 5. Goalies
Elle Miller and Gillman both spent some time in goal today, with Miller posting 2 saves and Gillman recording 7. Miller was the leader in caused turnovers with 1, and Tinnerello led the draw controls with 7.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial move to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.
