Women's Lacrosse Falls To #1 NAIA Opponent SCAD In Overtime

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team falls to #1 NAIA Opponent the SCAD-Savannah Bees Sunday afternoon in a close overtime battle 13-14.

Lincoln Memorial was first to put a point on the board, as Jaiden Jaynes scores first for LMU, unassisted, with 13:24 remaining in the first quarter. The Railplitters extend their lead when Amber Kirkpatrick adds her first goal of the match with 9:14 remaining, with the assist coming from Abby Durkin. The Bees score their first goal of the match with 6:54 remaining by Holland. Josie Tinnerello tallies goal #3 for LMU as she adds her first goal of the match with 5:55 remaining in the first. SCAD ties up the match by posting 2 more goals: Roch with 4:28 remaining and 2:48 remaining, to make the score 3-3 going into the second quarter.

The Bees were the first to score in the second, with Brown scoring unassisted with 11:59 remaining. Kirkpatrick recorded her second goal on the day, unassisted, with 8:35 remaining to tie up the score 4-4. Jalee Davis adds a goal for LMU with 7:54 remaining in the second to take back the lead for LMU, but SCAD quickly ties up the match again with Roch (Geiger) scoring with 7:16 remaining. The Bees take the lead once again with Berkeley scoring with 6:23 remaining. Tinnerello takes the hat trick as she scores her second and third goals of the day, the first with 4:55 remaining with the assist from Durkin and the second with 3:52 remaining, unassisted, making the score 7-6 with LMU in the lead. SCAD adds one more goal to tie up the match once again, with Brown scoring with 2:40 remaining, but Tinnerello quickly adds her fourth goal of the match, with McKenzie Cates earning the assist, to give Lincoln Memorial the 9-7 lead going into halftime.

The Railsplitters were first to score in the third, with the goal coming from Jaedyn Ryba with 11:57 remaining, unassisted. The Bees quickly respond with a goal to lessen LMU's lead, as Geiger scores with 11:18 remaining. LMU then goes on a 3-0 scoring run as they post 3 more goals to extend their lead, with Durkin scoring with 9:06 remaining on a man-down goal, Jaynes adding a goal with 8:30 remaining, and Kirkpatrick tallying a goal with 8:11 remaining with the assist coming from Tinnerello, making the score 12-8 going into the final quarter of the match.

Lincoln Memorial was quick to score in the fourth, with Jaynes recording a man-up goal with 14:32 remaining, with Kirkpatrick tallying the assist. The Bees then go on a scoring run of their own as they score 6 straight goals in the fourth: Benintendi scoring with 13:33 remaining and 10:52 remaining, Roch (Brown) with 4:59 remaining, Benintendi with 4:50 remaining, Roch with 3:51 remaining, and Brown with 1:17 remaining, which brings the game tied 13-13 at the end of regulation to force the match into overtime.

With 1:17 remaining in the first period of overtime, the Bees score off of a free-position shot by Brown to give SCAD the win 13-14.

Tinnerello finishes the day with 5 points, accounting for a team-high 4 goals and 1 assist, followed by Kirkpatrick with 4 points for 3 goals and 1 assist. Jaynes and Durkin finished with 3 points each as Jaynes scored 3 goals and Durkin recorded 1 goal and team-high 2 assists. Davis, Ryba, and Cates all finish with 1 point each, with Davis and Ryba adding 1 goal each and Cates recording an assist. Mary Kostus was the team leader in ground balls with 3, and Samantha Billingsley led in both caused turnovers and draw controls with 4 and 5, respectively. Elle Miller played all 90 minutes and earned herself 15 saves on the afternoon.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 31 shots, with 28 being on goal, 15 successful clears, 18 ground balls, and 15 draw controls.

With the loss, LMU moves to 4-4 overall.

Their next match will be at home on Saturday, March 15th as they face SAC opponent Coker at 11 am.
