Men's Volleyball Defeats Catawba In Three On Senior Day

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeats the Catawba Indians in 3 (25-17, 22-25, 25-15) Saturday afternoon on Senior Day for their 14th consecutive win and their 21st overall win of the season. 

The first set was a battle, as the largest run that LMU could string together was a 3-0 run at the end of the set. But with help of their match high attack percentage of 0.548, the Railsplitters took set one 25-17. The second set was much like the first, it was back-and-forth as there was 5 ties and 2 lead changes throughout the set. A 4-0 LMU run set them far enough in the lead to where Lincoln Memorial could get the win fot set two 25-22. The third set was all LMU, as they remained in the lead the entire set and pieced together a 7-1 run at the end of the set to give them the set three win 25-15, giving the Railsplitters the match sweep 3-0. 

Matthew Gentry and Axel van Baars both tallied a team-high 10 kills on the afternoon, with Gentry posting a team-high 0.750 attack percentage and van Baars a 0.389 attack percentage. John Luers once again led the team in assists with 36, and Gentry was the team leader in service aces with 4. Gentry lead in total blocks with 3, accounting for 1 solo block and 2 block assists, and Luers recorded a team-high 9 digs. 

As a team, Lincoln Memorial posted a 0.548 attack percentage in the first, 0.423 in the second, and 0.350 in the third for a match attack percentage of 0.455. LMU recorded 58 points, 47 kills, 7 service aces, 4 blocks, 41 assists, and 25 digs. 

With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 21-1 on the season. 

LMU will now await their seeding for the IVA tournament, which will be April 18-19.
