Women's Lacrosse Falls To UVA Wise On Senior Day

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team falls to the UVA Wise Cavaliers 7-11 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. 6 seniors were honored prior to the match:  Breanna BoothJaedyn RybaDelaney DuckSamantha BillingsleySavannah Telemeco, and Elle Miller.

Briana Martinez would get things started for LMU as she scores her first goal of the match with 13:24 in the first quarter with Abby Durkin earning the assist. The Cavaliers would respond about two minutes later with Davis adding a goal with 11:50 remaining tio tie up the match. The next eight minutes would be scoreless, as the next goal scored wouldn't be until 3:22 remaining, where Durkin posts up a goal of her own as Breanna Booth tallies the assist. UVA Wise would tie up the match once again with Schultz (Davis) scoring with 2:09 remaining. With that being the last goal scored in the first, the score going into the second quarter would be tied up at 2-2. 

The second quarter was like the first where the Railsplitters would be the first to add a goal to the board, with Jaiden Jaynes registering her first goal of the match with 11:40 remaining, with Booth recording her second assist of the day. The rest of the second would be all UVA Wise, as they put together a 3-0 scoring run to finish up the second quarter: Hiller with 6:45 remaining, Paterson (Davis) with 5:27 remaining, and Hiller (Stoffelen) with 4:58 remaining. The score going into halftime would be 5-3 with the Cavaliers in the lead. 

The third would be UVA Wise's highest scoring quarter, as they start the scoring at 13:05 with Golatt scoring, followed by Schultz (Hillstrom) with 11:44 remaining to extend their lead. Martinez would shorten the Cavalier's lead as she secures the brace with her second goal of the day with 10:55 remaining, unassisted. Five minutes later, Wise would respond back with a goal as Golatt scored with 6:33 remaining. The next goal would be with 3:04 remaining, as Davis tallies a man up goal with Booth earning her third assist of the match. The Cavaliers would have the final say in the third as Clay (Davis) would score with 1:14 remaining, making the score 9-5 going into the fourth and final quarter. 

UVA Wise would be first to score in the fourth, as Paterson adds a goal with 11:31 remaining. Jaynes would get the brace with her second goal of the day at 6:26, with Durkin tallying her second assist. Wise would score once again with 2:10 remaining as Schultz (Davis) scores. LMU would be the last to score as Martinez secures the hat trick as she scores her third goal of the match with 0:37 remaining. The final score would be 11-7 with Wise taking the win. 

Martinez, Durkin, and Booth would all lead with 3 points each as Martinez scores 3 goals,  Durkin adds 2 goals and 1 assist, and Booth tallies 3 assists. They would be followed by Jaynes with 2 points for 2 goals and Davis with 1 point for 1 goal. McKenzie Cates would be the team-leader in ground balls with 3, and Samantha Billingsley would have the team-high in caused turnovers and draw controls with 2 caused turnovers and 5 draw controls. Keegan Gillman and Elle Miller would both receive time in goal, with Gillman earning 7 saves and Miller recording 2. 

As a team, Lincoln Memorial posted 25 shots, with 14 of them on goal, 9 saves, 13 successful clears, 17 ground balls, 11 draw controls, 11 caused turnovers, and 6 free position opportunities with 1 resulting in a goal. 

With the loss, LMU moves to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play. 

They will get a rest as their next match isn't until Saturday, April 19 as they travel to Newberry, SC to face Newberry at 1 pm.
