Tinnerello Breaks Program Record As Women's Lacrosse Falls Short To Wolves

Newberry, SC - The Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team falls short to the Newberry Wolves Saturday afternoon 8-12. 

Newberry gets things going from the beginning as Elias scores the Wolves' first goal of the match with 13:51 remaining. LMU responds quickly as Amber Kirkpatrick tallies her first goal of the match with 12:35 remaining in the first, unassisted. The Wolves regain the lead with 12:16 remaining as Bunner (Burns) adds a goal. Lincoln Memorial once again ties up the match, thanks to Jaiden Jaynes recording a goal with 11:17 remaining, unassisted. Newberry begins their first scoring run of the match, as Howell scores with 10:34 remaining and Hawkes with 5:50 remaining. Josie Tinnerello puts her first goal of the match on the board with 2:58 remaining. With Tinnerello's goal being the last of te first quarter, Newberry goes into the second quarter in the lead 3-4. 

Unlike the first, the Railsplitters begin the scoring in the second quarter, as Ryan Smith pieces together her first goal of the match with 13:57 remaining. Newberry's Howell tallies a goal with 11:09 remaining, followed by Kirkpatrick securing the brace with her second goal of the match with 8:14 remaining. The Wolves post yet another scoring run with Howell scoring with 8:02 remaining and Elias adding a goal with 4:35 remaining. With the scoring run being the last scoring action of the quarter, the score is 5-7 going into halftime with Newberry in the lead. 

Scoring begins for LMU right off the whistle in the third as Tinnerello also secures the brace with her second goal of the match with 13:31 remaining, which is also a man up goal. Newberry pieces together three more goals: Jobs (Hawkes) with 9:03 remaining, Howell with 9:03 remaining, Travassos (Beasley) with 8:38 remaining. The score going into the fourth anf final quarter would be 7-11 with Newberry in the lead.  

Tinnerello begins the scoring for the fourth quarter as she adds her third goal of the match with 11:59 remaining to get the hat trick, with McKenzie Cates earning the first assist of the day for LMU. Newberry extends the lead with Jobs adding a goal with 10:02 remaining. Kirkpatrick also gets the trick as she adds her third goal of the match with 6:49 remaining. Newberry adds a last minute goal with 0:19 remaining coming from Jobs. The final score would be 8-12 with  Newberry getting the win. 

Tinnerello and Kirkpatrick both led in points on the afternoon, as they both tallied 3 goals for 3 points. Cates, Jaynes, and Smith all get 1 point with Jaynes and Smith posting a goal each and Cates earning 1 assist. Delaney Duck was the team-leader in both caused turnovers and ground balls with 3 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls. Briana Martinez led the team in draw controls with 3. Elle Miller earned herself 18 saves on the afternoon. 

With her three goals today, Tinnerello is now the all time leader in career goals with 143 goals, as the previous record was held by Amara Moss (2016-2019) with 141 goals.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial posted 29 shots, with 17 of them being on goal, 18 saves, 21 successful clears, 23 ground balls, 10 draw controls, and 8 free position shots with 4 of them resulting in a goal.

With the loss, LMU moves to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play. 

Their next match will be their last regular season game before the SAC tournament, as travel to Emory, VA on Saturday, April 23rd to face Emory & Henry at 3 pm.
