Hall and Harvey go 5-for-5 at the plate, Railsplitters take both games of double-header to secure series

Harstville, SC – One day after falling in a tightly-contested game one, the Lincoln Memorial baseball team was seeking an emphatic bounce back to claim a vital series victory over the Coker Cobras on Saturday.

"Bouncing back" would be an understatement considering the offensive performance from the Railsplitters in the first game of Saturday's double-header. Chris Hall and Kasten Harvey were seemingly unstoppable, with both going 5-for-5 at the plate. Hall hit for the cycle, totaling three singles, a double, a triple, and one home run, driving in two runs. Harvey was one double shy of a cycle himself. On the day, Harvey singled once, tripled twice, and blasted two homers to drive in seven runs. Colin Murphy pitched a great outing for Lincoln Memorial, pitching seven innings, allowing six hits, four runs, and four earned runs with one walk and nine strikeouts. He forced six fly-outs and five ground outs.

From the jump, it was clear that Hall and Harvey were poised for a big day at the plate. Hall doubled down the right field line before Harvey tripled to center field to give the Railsplitters a quick 1-0 lead. Sam Mast later popped up a sac-fly to left field, allowing Harvey to take home and give Lincoln Memorial a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning. Murphy's day started off shaky, allowing four hits and three runs in the first inning, but he settled in quickly, allowing only one more run throughout the duration of his time on the bump. With the Cobras leading 3-2 heading into the second inning, the Railsplitters went down in succession, allowing Coker to extend its lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. The Lincoln Memorial bats began to pop once again in the top of the third inning. Archer Wong-Shasteen doubled to break the seal in the third inning. On the following at-bat, Hall connected on a two-run shot to right field, knotting the game at 4-4. Not to be outdone, on the ensuing at-bat, Harvey ripped a solo shot to center field to give Lincoln Memorial a 5-4 advantage. After a pitching change, the Railsplitters moved back to defense. Murphy began to heat up, retiring the next three Cobras in succession.

The fourth inning was one of only two innings that both teams were held scoreless. Both teams went down 1-2-3 to see the game quickly spill into the fifth inning. Lincoln Memorial began to separate in the fifth inning. The Railsplitters got back-to-back singles to center field from Wong-Shasteen and Hall to put two on base before Harvey tripled to center field to drive in both Wong-Shasteen and Hall, extending the Lincoln Memorial lead to 7-4. On the following at-bat, Alex Kowalski lined out to shortstop to drive in Harvey and double up the Cobras, 8-4, as the game moved into the sixth inning following another quick defensive stand from the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial left little to chance and elected to continue its "shock and awe" approach to offense, adding another three runs in the top of the sixth. Brooks Hagedorn doubled to right field before Austin Epperson laid down a bunt and turned on the jets, successfully reaching base to put two quick runners on the corners. Hagedorn subsequently scored before Wong-Shasteen delivered a sac-fly to center field to bring Epperson home, giving Lincoln Memorial a 10-4 advantage. Another hit from Hall allowed Harvey to bring him home with a single to center field as the score ballooned to 11-4. Once again, Murphy sat the Cobras down in succession in the bottom of the sixth.

The seventh inning was scoreless for both teams. Following a triple from Hall, Harvey connected on his second homer of the game, a two-run shot to left field, seeing Lincoln Memorial triple up on Coker, 12-4. Cooper Jones took the mound for the Railsplitters in the bottom of the eighth inning. Although the Cobras managed a pair of hits and a run in the bottom of the inning, the damage was limited and the Railsplitters had built plenty of cushion. With a 13-5 lead, Lincoln Memorial survived a six-hit, five-run scare from Coker in the bottom of the ninth, securing a 13-10 victory to see the series split 1-1, to be decided in a seven-inning rubber match.

The Lincoln Memorial bats stayed hot into the series deciding game, opening with three runs on three hits. Kowalski was walked to get the first runner on base before Mast singled to right field to put two on base. Trace Simmons drove in Kowalski with a single to right field. Hagedorn then singled to drive in Mast and Simmons, giving the Railsplitters a quick 3-0 lead. Coker responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first to knot the game at 3-3. Thanks to an error and some good base running, Lincoln Memorial took a 4-3 lead in the top of the third with the Cobras error. As the game moved into the fourth inning, neither team added to its run total, leaving the Railsplitters narrowly in control, 4-3. Failing to extend the lead in the top of the fifth, Lincoln Memorial fell behind 6-4 when Coker added three runs in the bottom of the inning. The sixth inning was also quiet, with both teams remaining scoreless, leaving the Cobras in control, 6-4 heading into the final frame.

Down to its last three outs, Lincoln Memorial added five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, eventually pulling away to post a 9-6 victory. Mast singled to right field before Simmons singled, putting two runners on base. Hagedorn singled to left center to drive in both Mast and Simmons, tying the game at 6-6. With Caleb Jordan and Hagedorn in scoring position, Wong-Shasteen singled to center field to drive in both runners, giving Lincoln Memorial an 8-6 lead. The final run of the game came when Hall connected on a sac-fly, driving in Fernandez, bringing the score to its final, 9-6, seeing Lincoln Memorial secure both games of the double-header, taking the series 2-1.
