Mount Olive, NC – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeats the #20 Mount Olive Trojans 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23) to keep their win streak alive for their 11
th straight win of the season.
Mount Olive got an early lead in the first set with a 8-2 run, which ultimately gave the Trojans the win for set one, 17-25, shutting down LMU's 9-game sweep streak. The second set was more of a battle, as they were 4 ties up until the Railsplitter's 20
th point, then a 5-3 run gave LMU the win for set two 25-22. The third set was much like the second, but Lincoln Memorial kept the lead by at least 2 throughout the set. With the help of a .419 team attack percentage form LMU, the Railsplitters took the set three win 25-20. Becausse of UMO's low attack percentage of 0.133 , Lincoln Memorial took set four 25-23, giving them the match win 3-1.
Axel van Baars led the team in kills with 15 kills for a 0.263 attack percentage.
John Luers lead in assists with 42, and
Eliel Salva Torres recorded team-high 4 service aces. Defensively,
Tate Colebaugh was the team-leader in digs with 14 and Salva Torres had team-high 3.5 total blocks for 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded a 0.083 attack percentage in the first, 0.206 in the second, 0.419 in the third, and 0.22 in the fourth for a match attack percentage of 0.240. LMU recorded 92 points, 52 kills, 46 assists, 6 service aces, 3 solo blocks, 17 block assists, and 47 digs.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 18-1 on the season.
Their next match will be on Tuesday, April 8
th as they travel to Banner Elk, NC to face Lees-McRae at 6 pm.
