LMU Softball Sweeps UVA Wise in Wednesday Home Softball Action

Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial sweeps the Cavaliers today in midweek home softball action by scores of 3-0 and 6-2.

Kristin Griffin would get things started for LMU, sending a base hit up the middle in the bottom of the first. She would move to second on a wild pitch shortly after but be stranded there to keep the game scoreless. Gracie Palmer would be the next Railsplitter to reach base, getting aboard via error in the third. Anna Kate Reichter's base hit would score Palmer, putting LMU on the board first. Palmer would repeat the sequence, getting on base in the bottom of the fifth and then moving to second on a sacrifice bunt from Anna Kate Reichter. Griffin would bring Palmer home, giving LMU the 2-0 lead on the RBI single. McMeen would step up and get on base to lead off the bottom of the sixth, rounding the bases thanks to Alyssa Williams on an RBI triple later on in the inning. A three-up-three-down top of the seventh would cement the 3-0 score, giving Halle Grace Patton and Lincoln Memorial softball the win on the one-hitter.

Aslynn Lupton would get the start in game two for the Splitters. On the offensive end, Reichter would lead things off with an infield bunt single, a base hit through the left side following on the next pitch by Griffin to give LMU two on, no one out. The reigning SAC Player of the Week, Hanna Bogoski, would take advantage, finding the right-center wall to score both on the two RBI triple. Bogoski wouldn't stay on the base path long, Jordann Reagan swinging on the first pitch of her at-bat to make the score 3-0 in favor of Lincoln Memorial. Hannah McMeen's single would keep the inning going, Nicole Couvertiere following it up with a patient at-bat to make that two-on. Brianna Baer would find some space down the right-field line in her first at-bat of the game, scoring McMeen and extending the lead. A walk issued to Palmer would turn the lineup over and force the Cavaliers to make a pitching change to end the inning. A four-pitch walk issued to Griffin would begin the bottom of the second, stealing second in the next at-bat. Reagan's single up the middle would make it a 5-0 LMU lead as Griffin would round the corner and score.

A scoreless inning and a half would take it to the bottom of the fourth, where Bogoski would single up the middle to lead off the frame. Make that back-to-back singles as Reagan would earn her second hit of the contest to give LMU another two-on situation. A bunt from McMeen would move both runners to scoring position. Nicole Couvertiere would send one to deep center for a sacrifice fly, plating another run for Lincoln Memorial. The Cavaliers would find a few hits in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to four. Neither team would score again, helping Lupton earn her first complete game victory on the season and the series sweep.
