Women's Soccer Begins Conference Play Saturday Against Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, NC - The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team starts South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 13th as they face the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at 1 pm. 

The weekend meeting will be the 25th overall meeting between LMU and L-R, with the most recent meeting in the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship match on November 17, 2024, where the Railsplitters fell 1-3. Lincoln Memorial last secured a victory in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals with a 1-0 LMU win. The last time that the team has defeated Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory was in October of 2018, where the Railsplitters beat the Bears 2-1. 

Lincoln Memorial is coming off an dominating 5-0 win over Southern Wesleyan University on September 10th, were five different Railsplitters secured a goal: Viktoria Filsner off of a Jade Brown assist, Hannah Stafford, Ellie Snyder off of a Stafford assist, Donna van der Zalm off of a Stafford assist, and Kenzie Zimmers. Goalkeeper Emma Cooke recorded a shutout along with two saves. 

Paige Branam is currently leading the team in points with six (tied for 4th in the SAC), accounting for three goals (tied for 1st in the SAC), followed by Filsner and Stafford with four points as they each have one goal and two assists (tied for 2nd in the SAC). Filsner is the team-leader in shots and shots on goal with six and four, respectively, along with one game winning goal. Cooke has recorded nine saves on the season (tied for 3rd in the SAC) with a 81.8 save percentage (5th in the SAC). 

As a team, Lincoln Memorial is 2nd in the conference in corner kicks per game (7), 3rd in save percentage (81.8%), and 2nd in the conference in shutout percentage (66.7%). 

The Bears are coming off a 3-0 win against UNC Pembroke on September 10th.

The Railsplitters are entering Saturday's contest with a 2-0-1 overall record, and L-R is coming into Saturday with a 2-1 overall record. In the South Atlantic Conference, LMU is tied for 2nd with Newberry with a 2-0-1 record, and Lenoir-Rhyne is currently tied for 4th with Carson-Newman, Coker, and Tusculum with a 2-1 record, as standings are based off of overall records since no teams have started conference play thus far.
