Huntsville, AL – Lincoln Memorial split the opening day of the UAH Invitational on Friday, defeating Trevecca Nazarene in the morning before falling to host Alabama–Huntsville in the afternoon. The Railsplitters move to 4–3 on the season.
LMU opened the tournament with a 3–1 win over Trevecca Nazarene. The Railsplitters started fast, jumping to a 6–0 lead behind four early kills from Kaytlin Johnson and back-to-back aces from Lauren Pickett before closing out the first set 25–22. LMU carried that momentum into the second, using a mid-set run and late kills from Johnson and Sarah Robbins to secure a 25–21 win. Trevecca answered in the third, capitalizing on LMU miscues to take a 25–15 decision, but the Railsplitters regrouped in the fourth with timely kills from Johnson, Georgia Dobson, and Laney Inman to finish the match 25–20. Johnson led all players with 23 kills, while setter Carley Raleigh handed out 19 assists, and Megan Maier anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs.
In the afternoon, LMU dropped a five-set battle to Alabama–Huntsville, 25–22, 17–25, 25–23, 18–25, 15–17. The Railsplitters held off a late Chargers push to take the opening set, but UAH responded in the second before LMU took a tight third to regain the lead. The Chargers controlled the fourth to force a decider, where both sides traded points until UAH closed it out in extras. Johnson paced LMU with 17 kills and 12 digs, Maier added 13 kills and 14 digs, and Inman added 10 kills. Libero Lauren Jacob led the back row with 25 digs and three aces, while Raleigh (20 assists, 16 digs) and Pickett (17 assists, 13 digs) guided the offense. The Railsplitters finished with eight aces.
LMU finishes the opening day of the UAH Invitational at 1–1, moving its season record to 4–3 overall. The Railsplitters will look to build consistency on Saturday when they face Spring Hill at 11 a.m. before wrapping up tournament play against Nova Southeastern at 5:45 p.m.
