Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team stays undefeated at home as they beat the Coker Cobras 1-0 Saturday evening.
The Cobras started the shooting quickly in the first half as their first shot was in the 6
th minute, saved by goalkeeper
Emma Cooke.
Possession was back and forth, but the Railsplitters fired off their first shot on frame in the 19
th minute by
Viktoria Filsner, saved.
Cooke recorded three more saves from Coker shots on goal in the 26
th minute, 27
th minute, and 29
th minute. Filsner had another scoring opportunity as she took a shot on frame in the 31
st minute, saved.
The last shot of the half was in the 39
th minute by Coker, which gave Cooke her 5
th save of the match. The score going into halftime was 0-0.
In the second half, Lincoln Memorial had the first chance at goal in the 57
th minute as Filsner posted a saved shot and Branam fired an off target shot in the 58
th minute.
In the 65
th minute, Coker put another shot on frame, giving Cooke another save.
Almost 20 minutes later, a foul in the box was committed by Coker in the 82
nd minute, giving LMU a penalty kick, which
Donna van der Zalm netted in the bottom left corner to give Lincoln Memorial the lead 1-0.
Coker attempted to even up the match three more times before the final whistle: in the 85
th minute, 86
th minute, and 89
th minute, which was saved, off target, and saved, respectively.
As the final whistle blew, the Railsplitters kept the win streak alive at home with a 1-0 win.
Van der zalm led the scoring with the lone goal of the match. Filsner was the team-leader in shots and shots on goal with three. Cooke played all 90 minutes in goal with six saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial record 13 shots, with seven on goal, seven saves, and six corner kicks.
With the win, LMU improves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play and Coker moves to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Railsplitters will make the short trip to Greeneville, TN to face Tusculum on Wednesday, October 1
st at 5 pm.
