Chattanooga, TN – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team battled hard as they finished in a 0-0 draw against Georgia College.
Both teams were able to progress the ball into their attacking thirds, but the first shot of the match came from
Viktoria Filsner in the 12
th minute, high. Minutes later in the 14
th,
Raven Wellington produces a shot opportunity, off target. The Bobcats' first shot of the match comes in the 18
th minute, and the Railsplitters follow up with a shot in the 21
st minute from
Edie Wilds, blocked by a Bobcat. In the same minute,
Lieve Schiphof put off a shot to give another scoring opportunity to LMU, wide. The last attacking chance for either team comes from Georgia College in the 34
th minute. As the last 11 minutes of the half went without a shot, the teams went into halftime 0-0.
LMU pushed more offensively in the first, as they produced more shot opportunities (4-2) and more corners, as Lincoln Memorial had five compared to the Bobcat's three.
Georgia College pushed right when the half began, as they earned a corner kick and a shot in the 46
th minute, with the shot saved by
Emma Cooke, her first save of the day. Minutes later in the 48
th minute, the Bobcats took another shot on goal which gave Cooke save #2 of the afternoon. After that, LMU got into their attacking third and earned themselves back-to-back corners, followed by a
Jade Brown shot in the 57
th minute. Georgia College was able to respond with a shot of their own in the 64
th minute, wide, followed by two more shots in the 70
th, minute, 74
th minute, and 78
th minute, one high, one saved by Cooke, and one wide, respectively. LMU's closest goal opportunity came in the 81
st minute when
Kenzie Zimmers slid in for a shot but was saved by the goalkeeper. With Zimmer's shot being the last chance for either team, the match ends scoreless for a 0-0 draw.
Schiphof, Brown, Wellington, Wilds, Zimmers, and Filsner each had one shot each, with Zimmers producing the lone shot on goal for the Railsplitters. Cooke played all 90 minutes for LMU and earned herself three saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial was slightly outshot as Georgia College produced eight shots and LMU took 6. Despite that, LMU had more saves (3-1) and more corner kick opportunities (8-6).
With the draw, Lincoln Memorial move to 1-0-1 on the season.
LMU aims to shift their focus onto Wednesday, September 10
th as they travel to Central, SC to face Southern Wesleyan University at 5 pm.
