Newberry, SC – Lincoln Memorial men's basketball dropped an 82-72 decision to Newberry on Saturday night as the Wolves used efficient shooting to pull away in the second half.
Newberry finished the contest shooting 50.9 percent from the field (27-of-53), compared to 42.9 percent (24-of-56) for Lincoln Memorial. The Wolves also held the edge from beyond the arc, knocking down 46.2 percent (6-of-13) of their three-point attempts, while the Railsplitters went 5-of-20 (25.0 percent). Both teams were active at the free-throw line, with Newberry converting 22-of-29 (75.9 percent) and Lincoln Memorial finishing 19-of-27 (70.4 percent).
Lincoln Memorial controlled the glass, outrebounding Newberry 36-27. The Railsplitters were particularly effective on the offensive boards, seizing 14 second-chance opportunities compared to six for the Wolves, while holding a narrow 22-21 edge in defensive rebounds.
Despite the rebounding advantage, Newberry's shooting efficiency proved to be the difference as the Wolves generated consistent offense throughout the night and capitalized at the foul line to maintain separation late.
Individually, Lincoln Memorial was led by EJ Smith, who finished with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three-point range.Yassin Hussein provided a strong presence inside, recording 14 points and eight rebounds while shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor. Walter Campbell added 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, pulling down five offensive boards to anchor the Railsplitters on the glass, recording a double-double.
Jayden Spearman also contributed 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Ashton Pennamon chipped in nine points and went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Nate Mims added five points and three rebounds, and Drew Lewis finished with four points, two assists, and two rebounds.
Lincoln Memorial will look to bounce back as it continues South Atlantic Conference play Wedneday on the road at Carson-Newman.
