Jefferson City, TN — Lincoln Memorial men's basketball picked up a hard-fought 70-58 road victory Wednesday night, defeating Carson-Newman in Jefferson City behind balanced scoring and a relentless defensive effort. The Railsplitters entered the contest with an 8-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in league play, while the Eagles came in at 8-6 overall and 3-5 in conference action, setting the stage for a tightly contested match up.
Lincoln Memorial shot 46 percent from the floor, connecting on 29-of-63 attempts, while holding Carson-Newman to 44 percent shooting on 23-of-52. The Railsplitters knocked down seven three-pointers and limited the Eagles to six from long range. Lincoln Memorial's defense was a difference-maker throughout the night, forcing 19 turnovers and converting those miscues into 22 points, while allowing Carson-Newman just nine points off turnovers. The Railsplitters also recorded 10 steals and five blocks, consistently disrupting passing lanes and challenging shots to keep the Eagles off balance.
Nate Mims led Lincoln Memorial with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds and three steals. Walter Campbell delivered an efficient performance with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, five rebounds and four assists, providing a strong presence on both ends of the floor. Ashton Pennamon added 13 points and six assists while controlling the tempo, and Armon Jarrard chipped in 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers.
