Women's Basketball Secures Seventh Conference Win Of The Season With Victory Over Newberry

Newberry, SC – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball earns their seventh conference win of the season as they defeat Newberry Saturday afternoon 65-50.

Lincoln Memorial made the first shot of the game, but then Newberry put together a 9-2 run to take the lead for the Wolves for the remainder of the first quarter, as they had the 14-11 lead going into the second. Despite being outscored by Newberry, LMU out rebounded the wolves 9-14.

LMU picked up the momentum in the second, outscoring Newberry 13-23, with the help of Kamil Collier leading with eight points. The team was efficient from the field and the free throw line, as they went 6/9 from the field and 10/13 from the charity stripe. As a result, the Lady Railsplitters went into halftime with the 27-34 advantage.

The third was even, as LMU only outscored the Wolves by one point as they scored 16 points and Newberry added 15. Keiara Anderson led this quarter as she contributed double-digits with ten, giving Lincoln Memorial the 42-50 lead going into the final quarter.

Quarter four was the lowest scoring quarter for Newberry, LMU limited the Wolves to only score eight points compared to Lincoln Memorial's 15, with Maleiya Hill scoring eight of 15 points for LMU. Because of the defensive pressure by Lincoln Memorial, the Lady Railsplitters took home the victory 50-65.

Anderson was the team-leader for LMU with 19 points along with five rebounds, followed by Hill, who also recorded double-digits with 17 points, and four rebounds. Collier registered her ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and ten rebounds. Lexi Patty was the last player to score double-digits for the Lady Railsplitters with ten points and eight rebounds. Asia Barr and Sariya Henry added three points and four rebounds each, and Ajalon Gillard rounded out the scoring with one point.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 44.9% from the field, 23.8% from the three, and 16/20 from the free throw line.

LMU secured 41 rebounds, nine steals, scored 34 points in the paint, 12 second chance points, 11 points off of Newberry turnovers, and 21 bench points.

With the win, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Newberry drops to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the SAC.

The team's next match will be on Wednesday, January 14th as they make the trip to Jefferson City, TN to face rival Carson-Newman at 5:30 pm.
