Jefferson City, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball faces their second loss of the season as they fall to the Carson-Newman Eagles 76-58 Wednesday evening.
The Eagles quickly tested the Lady Railsplitters as they put together a 14-4 run in the first five minutes of the opening quarter. Lincoln Memorial fought back in the remaining five as they ended the quarter only trailing by four, 19-14, with
Kamil Collier leading with eight points.
The second was much like the first, as the two teams battled with Lincoln Memorial falling short of the lead as they were outscored by C-N 17-12. With Collier also leading quarter two with seven points, Lincoln Memorial trailed 36-26 going into halftime.
The third was a high scoring quarter for both teams, with LMU adding 17 points but Carson-Newman scoring 21.
Maleiya Hill led with six points, but Lincoln Memorial still trailed going into the fourth quarter 57-43.
The Lady Railsplitters fought in the fourth, as it was the closest quarter of the game with LMU scoring 15 compared to Carson-Newman's 19. Despite the late fight, LMU faces their second loss of the season against the Eagles 76-58.
Collier led the team with her tenth double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds.
Alexa Smiddy followed with 12 points and five rebounds.
Asia Barr and Hill added eight and six points, respectively.
Keiara Anderson contributed with five points and
Lexi Patty and
Aubree Laney rounded out the scoring with one point each.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 34% from the field, 10% from the three, and 10/17 from the free throw line.
LMU secured 35 rebounds, scored 38 points in the paint, 15 second chance points, six fast break points, and 7 bench points.
With the loss, the Lady Railsplitters drop to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play and C-N improves to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC.
The team will return home on Saturday, January 17
th as they host #10 Coker at 2 pm in Tex Turner Arena.
