Women's Basketball Defeats #10 Coker

Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball goes back in the win column as they defeat the #10 Coker Cobras Saturday afternoon 72-58. This is the first time defeating a Top 10 opponent since defeating #10 Carson-Newman on January 27, 2021.

The Lady Railsplitters came out fired up in the first quarter, as LMU forced the Cobras to seven turnovers. Lincoln Memorial doubled Coker's points as they scored 21 compared to Coker's 12, with Asia Barr scoring double-digits with 12 points.

The second quarter was a more even match up, with each team adding 18 points to the board, and out rebounding the Cobras 10-8. With Alexa Smiddy leading the quarter with six, LMU going into halftime with the 39-30 advantage.

Smiddy scored 11 out of LMU's 17 points in the third quarter, as they still outscored Coker by two points as they added 15. The team went into the final quarter with the 56-45 lead.

The fourth quarter was much like the third, solidifying their lead with 16 points compared to Coker's 13. With Smiddy also registering 11 in the fourth, the Lady Railsplitters hand #10 Coker their second loss of the week 72-58.

Smiddy led the team in scoring with 29 points along with five rebounds. Kamil Collier and Barr also registered double digits, with 14 and 13 points, respectively, with Collier also securing nine rebounds. Next was Lexi Patty with eight points and four rebounds, followed by Maleiya Hill with six points. Sariya Henry rounded out the scoring with two points.

Lincoln Memorial went 43.6% from the field, 28.6% from the three, and 18/25 from the free throw line.

LMU grabbed 28 rebounds, scored 28 points in the paint, 10 fast break points, eight bench points, and seven second chance points.

With the win, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the SAC, and the Cobras fall to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

The team will be back at home for their next game on Wednesday, January 21st against UVA Wise at 5:30 pm in Tex Turner Arena.
