Women's Basketball Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne In Overtime

Hickory, NC - Lincoln Memorial women's basketball falls to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears Friday afternoon 63-71. 

LMU and L-R battles through the first quarter, as there was three lead changes throughout. Despite the Lady Railsplitters recording a higher percentage from the field with 50%, Lincoln Memorial went into the second quarter with a one point deficit 18-19. 

The Bears took the lead in the second, as LMU was outscored 11-17. With Kamil Collier and Maleiya Hill leading the quarter with four points each, the team  went into halftime falling 29-36.

Quarter three was the lowest scoring quarter for both teams, as neither team was able to get to double-digits with LMU scoring nine points and L-R adding seven. Collier recorded five of LMU's nine points, and the Lady Railsplitters go into the last quarter 38-43.

The fourth quarter was were Lincoln Memorial picked up the momentum, outscoring Lenoir-Rhyne 22-17, with Collier and Lexi Patty leading with six each. Thanks to the team's highly efficient shooting from the three, as they made 4/5, Lincoln Memorial was able to tie up the game 60-60, forcing it to go into overtime. 

In the first overtime period, the Bears extended their lead again as they scored 11 points compared to LMU's three. With that, LMU falls to Lenoir-Rhyne 63-71.

Collier led the team in scoring and on the boards as the recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Keiara Anderson and Patty also recorded double-digits on the evening, as Patty scored 18 points, as she went 4/7 from beyond the arch, and Anderson added 12 points and six rebounds. Alexa Smiddy registered seven points and nine rebounds, and Hill rounded out the scoring with six points. 

As a team, LMU went 31.3 from the field, 29% from the three, and 12/15 from the charity stripe. 

The Lady Railsplitters secured 47 rebounds, scored 22 points in the paint, 11 points off of L-R turnovers, seven second chance points, six points from the bench, and two fast break points. 

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial falls to 14-3 overall and 9-3 in conference play and Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 14-4 overall and 10-2 in the SAC. 

LMU's next game is also on the road as they travel to Emory, VA on Wednesday, January 28th as they face Emory & Henry at 5:30 pm.
