Harrogate, TN - Lincoln Memorial women's basktball defeats the Carson-Newman Eagles Wednesday evening 62-51.
LMU came out aggressive in the first quarter, and they pieced together a 6-0 run at the start of the quarter and another at the end, helping the team to be in the lead at the end of the first quarter 20-15.Â
The second quarter was a battle, as the Lady Railsplitters and the Eagles went back-and-forth throughout the quarter, but with the help of a 5-0 run by C-N at the end of the quarter, Carson-Newman took the second outscoring LMU 13-11. Despite being outscored in the second, Lincoln Memorial still had the advantage going into halftime 31-28.
In quarter number three, Lincoln Memorial had the highest scoring percentages, with their field goal percentage being 53.8%, three-point 50%, and free throw 75%. Because of the efficient scoring by LMU, the Lady Railsplitters outscored the Eagles in the third 18-15, giving them the 49-43 lead going into the final quarter.Â
LMU applied the defensive pressure in the fourth, limiting the Eagles to only score eight points in the fourth. With Lincoln Memorial scoring 13 in the fourth, the Lady Railsplitters took the 62-51 win against Carson-Newman.Â
Kamil Collier led the team in both scoring and rebounds with her 15th double double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Alexa Smiddy and
Lexi Patty also added double-digits, as Smiddy registered 18 points and a team-high six assists and Patty nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Sariya Henry tallied six points and six rebounds.
Asia Barr and Maleiya Hil rounded out the scoring with three points each.Â
As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 40.4% from the field, 29.4% from the field, and 11/17 from the free throw line.Â
The Lady Railsplitters secured 39 rebounds, scored 34 points in the paint, 13 second chance points, 12 fast break points, 10 points off of C-N turnovers, and 9 points from the bench.Â
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improve to 19-3 overall and 14-3 in conference play, and Carson-Newman drops to 16-7 overall and 12-5 in the SAC.Â
The team will be at home again on Saturday, February 14th as they host Anderson at 2 pm in Tex Turner Arena.Â
