Harrogate, TN - Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse defeats the North Greenville Trailblazers Wednesday evening 16-7.
NGU got things started quickly as they scored the first two goals within the first two minutes of the match. Despite the early setback, Lincoln Memorial responded with two goals of their own:
Josie Tinnerello with 12:18 remaining and
Jaiden Jaynes with 7:16 remaining to leave the score tied at 2-2 at the end of the first.
The Railsplitters got on a scoring streak in the second quarter as they rallied together four back-to-bacl goals. Briana Marinez began the scoring for LMU with 13:57 remaining, followed by Jaynes' second goal of the evening with 8:14 remaining, assisted by Martinez.
Ruby Copeland extended LMU's lead with 5:43 remaining. Copeland then assisted
Naomi Spangler's goal with 4:36 remainig to make the score 6-2. North Greenville shortened the lead with three goals before the end of the quarter, leaving Lincoln Memorial still in the lead 6-5 at halftime.
Lincoln Memorial scored the most goals in quarter number three, starting out with
Izzy Hobday, Copeland, and Tinnerello scoring with 13:41, 12:41, and 12"28 remaining to extended the lead by four goals. The Trailblazers scored their lone goal of the quarter with 9:02 remaining. LMU finished the quarter by adding three more goals on the scoreboard: Martinez with 6:36 remaining ;
Emma Limestahl getting her first goal of the game with 5:46 remaining, with the assist coming from Copeland; and Jaynes recording a goal with 4:13 remaining. The score going into the final quarter would be 12-6 with LMU in the lead.
Jaynes started the scoring once again for Lincoln Memorial as she scored with 14:46 remaining, as
Abby Durkin got herself an assist. Durkin tallied two more assists as she assisted goals from Copeland (9:36 remaining) and
Ryan Smith (6:34 remaining). NGU scored their last goal of the match with 5:02 remaining. The Railsplitters solidified their win with Jaynes adding her last goal of the match with :57 remaining, making the final score 16-7.
Jaynes and Copeland led the team with five points each, as Jaynes scored five goals and Copeland added three goals and two assists. Martinez (2 goals, 1 assist) and Durkin (3 assists) followed with three points each.
Josie Tinnerello scored two goals for two points. Hobday, Spangler, Limestahl, and Smith all finished with one goal for one point.
Spangler led the team with four ground balls, Smith led with three caused turnovers, and Smith and Jaynes led in draw controls with three.
Jovie Favati and
Emily Mirabile had equal time in goal, as Favati recorded four saves and Mirabile with three.
With the win, Lincoln memorial improves to 1-1 overall and NGU drops to 0-2.
The team will be back at home on Saturday, February 14th as they host Lake Erie College at 11 am at LMU Lacrosse Complex.
