Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse defeated the Lake Erie Storm Saturday morning 18-6.
Josie Tinnerello got things started quickly into the match as she scored first with 13:26 remaining in the first, followed by
Izzy Hobday just ten seconds later scoring off of a
Ruby Copeland assist. The Storm recorded their first goal with 12:07 remaining in the first. The Railsplitters started a rally of scoring three goals in a row, beginning with
Ryan Smith adding a goal with 9:52, unassisted. The Tinnerello-Copeland duo then scored two back-to-back goals with 9:30 and 6:47 remaining. Lake Erie responded with their second goal with 5:41 remaining. LMU then scored four more before the end of the quarter, with Tinnerello scoring one again with 5:07 remaining with Copeland tallying another assist. Smith then scored with 4:41 remaining with
Abby Durkin getting the assist, and Hobday followed with a goal with 2:52 remaining and Copeland earning the assist. The last goal of the quarter was by
Jaiden Jaynes with 1:25 remaining as Smith got the assist. The score at the end of the first would be 9-2 with Lincoln Memorial in the lead.
Lake Erie would start with the scoring in the second as they score a pair of goals with 5:37 remaining and 5:15 remaining. LMU would score their lone goal of the second with 1:50 remaining, as Tinnerello scored off Copeland. The score going into halftime would be 10-4 with Lincoln Memorial having the advantage.
The Railsplitters would start the second half like they did the first, as Tinnerello and Copeland would connect with 13:43 remaining, with the Storm responding with a goal of their own with 11:39 remaining. Lincoln Memorial would then add a pair of goals to the scoreboard, as Jaynes records a goal off
Briana Martinez with 6:05 remaining and Smith scoring with 4:07 remaining.
Lincoln Memorial did all the scoring in the final frame, beginning with Martinez scoring off of
Riley Lang with 13:56 remaining, followed by Jaynes with 9:47 remaining. Durkin scored the last two goals for LMU, as she scored the first with 6:41 remaining off a Martinez assist, and the second one with 5:29 remaining. The Railsplitters would take the win 18-6.
Copeland would led the team in points with seven as she tallied one goal and six assists. Jaynes, Smith, and Tinnerello would follow with five points, with Jaynes recording four goals and one assist, Smith adding three goals and two assists, and Tinnerello recording five goals. Martinez and Durkin would be after with three points each, with Martinez registering one goal and two assists and Durkin adding two goals and one assist. Hobday would finish the day with two points for two goals, and Lang would round out the points with one assist.
Copeland and Tinnerello led the team in shots with seven, and Tinnerello led in shots on goal with six.
Mary Kostus was the team-leader in ground balls with four, and Kostus and Jaynes each led with two caused turnovers. Jaynes led the team in draw controls with 11.
Jovie Favati and
Emily Mirabile would each earn equal time in goal, with Favati recording two saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial outshot the storm 36-13, with 27 shots on goal, and had 14 ground balls, 17 draw controls, and 15/16 successful clears.
With the win, LMU improves to 2-1 overall and Lake Erie falls to 0-1 overall.
Lincoln Memorial will be at home once again as they host UAH on Tuesday February 17
th at 4 pm.
