Collier Lands New Career High As Women's Basketball Defeats The Lions

Mars Hill, NC – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball defeated the Mars Hill Lions Wednesday evening 77-61.

Lincoln Memorial started the game out strong, as they outscored the Lions 16-12. With Kamil Collier leading the first with eight points, along with Keiara Anderson going 2/3 from beyond the arch, the Lady Railsplitters go into the second frame with the four-point lead.  

In the second, LMU came out more aggressive offensively, as Lincoln Memorial scored 23 points compared to MHU's 16. Collier also led the second quarter with 20 points, which helped the Lady Railsplitters go into halftime with the 39-28 advantage.

The Lions scored the least amount of points in the third, as the Lady Railsplitters limited Mars Hill to only add ten points to their score while Lincoln Memorial added 20. Like the first two quarters, Collier led the pack with eight points, LMU led the game 59-38 going into the final frame.

Quarter four was the closest in terms of scoring, with Lincoln Memorial scoring and Mars Hill adding. This time, Lexi Patty and Kallie Housley led with five points each. With that, LMU took the victory over Mars Hill

Collier led all scorers with a career-high 32 points along with 12 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the season. Housley followed with 15 points, and Patty recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Keiara Anderson and Maleiya Hill each scored seven points. Alexa Smiddy and Ajalon Gilliard rounded out the scoring with three points each, while Smiddy also added on five rebounds.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 38.6% from the field, 23.5% from the three, and 15/23 from the free throw line.

LMU scored 38 points in the paint, 28 points off of MHU turnovers, 25 bench points, 11 second chance points and four fast break points.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 21-3 overall and 16-3 in conference play, while Mars Hill drops to 5-20 overall and 2-17 in the SAC.

The team will be on the road once again as they travel to Hartsville, SC to face #12 Coker on Saturday, February 21st at 2 pm.
