Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse defeats the Mount Olive Trojans Saturday afternoon 12-4.
The first quarter was all LMU, with Becket O'Shea starting the scoring for the Railsplitters with 11:21 remaining, followed by
Alex Winters adding a goal with 7:09 remaining with the assist coming from
Alex Wegrzyn. Lincoln Memorial extended the lead by three more goals in the last five minutes:
Jenson Jones with 4:19 remaining,
Gavin Reid with 3:15 remaining with
Domenico Moscato tallying the assist, and Jones getting his second goal of the match with two seconds remaining and Wegrzyn recording his second assist to make the score 5-0 going into the second quarter.
The Trojans scored first in the second frame with 14:39 remaining, then LMU finished the quarter off with two goals. The first goal by the Railsplitters was by Moscato with 12:44 remaining, and the second was by Reid with O'Shea getting the assist. The score going into halftime was 7-1 with Lincoln Memorial having the advantage.
Quarter three was much like the first, with the Railsplitters adding three more goals to their lead and allowing Mount Olive to add none. Reid got things started with Moscato earning the assist with 13:18 remaining, followed by Wegrzyn with 10:12 remaining. The last goal of the quarter was scored by Jones with 6:56 remaining, with Moscato tallying the assist, making the score 10-1 with the Railsplitters in the lead.
UMO scored a team-high three goals in the fourth starting out with back-to-back goals with 11:57 and 10:45 remaining. Lincoln Memorial responded with their first goal of the quarter by Wegrzyn with 10:09 remaining. The Trojans scored their last goal of the match with 6:43 remaining, followed by LMU's last of the game by
Dakota Ayres with 4:30 remaining with Jones getting the assist, giving Lincoln Memorial the 12-4 win.
Moscato (1 goal, 3 assists), Wegrzyn (2 goals, 2 assists), and Jones (3 goals, 1 assist) all led with four points each. Reid followed with three points for three goals, and O'Shea finished with two points for one goal and one assist. Aryes and Winters rounded out the points with one each for one goal.
Reid led the team in shots with 15, and Moscato and Jones led in shots on goal with four each.
Phillip Kristiansen was the team-leader in ground balls with three, and
Brixten McKenzie won 10/17 face offs. Goalkeeper
Jayden Herman recorded 13 saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial took 49 shots, with 23 being on frame, 25 successful clears, 25 ground balls, and 10 caused turnovers.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 2-1 and the Trojans drop to 0-3.
The team next match is on Saturday, February 28
th as they face Malone University at home at 12 pm.
