Greeneville, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team continued its impressive mid-season surge on Wednesday night, securing a hard-fought 65-58 road victory over Tusculum. The win marks the third consecutive triumph for the Railsplitters, who have now emerged victorious in six of their last seven contests.
Lincoln Memorial relied on a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops to overcome a resilient home squad.
Nate Mims spearheaded the Railsplitters attack with a game-high 18 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting performance. Mims was a constant presence on the court for 38 minutes, leading the team in scoring, hauling in seven rebounds and adding three steals to anchor the defensive unit. His ability to draw contact and get to the line was a major factor down the stretch, where he finished five of eight from the charity stripe to help maintain the Lincoln Memorial lead.
Providing a massive spark off the bench, Jayden Spearman was lethal from beyond the arc. Spearman connected on 5-of-10 attempts from three-point range, totaling 15 points and effectively stretching the defense. His perimeter shooting allowed the Railsplitters to build a double-digit cushion in the second half. He was joined in double figures by Armon Jarrard, who tallied 10 points and dished out four assists while providing steady ball-handling against the opposing pressure.
The Railsplitters offense was orchestrated by Ashton Pennamon, who served as the primary playmaker with a team-high six assists. In addition to his distribution, Pennamon contributed nine points and was a defensive menace, recording four of the team's 12 steals. The frontcourt saw valuable contributions from Walter Campbell, who hauled in 12 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive glass, to lead the team, while Drew Lewis and Emmanuel James combined for six points and four rebounds to maintain the teams interior physicality throughout the contest.
Now on a three game winning streak, claiming six victories in its last seven contests, Lincoln Memorial seeks to parlay its recent success into the upcoming weekend with a trip to Wingate on the docket.
