Men's Lacrosse Drops Close Match To Coker

Hartsville, SC – Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse  to the Coker Cobras Saturday afternoon 12-15.

Coker got things started as they scored less than 15 seconds into the match as they took the lead with 14:51 remaining. LMU then went on a three-goal scoring run to get the lead and then extend it, starting with Beckett O'Shea with 13:32 remaining, followed by Jenson Jones with 7:59 remaining, assisted by Koen Burdette, and Jones scoring the third goal with 6:50 remaining, unassisted. Coker then responded with three goals of their own with 4:44 remaining, 2:56 remaining, and 1:59 remaining to give Coker the 3-4 lead going into the second.

The Railsplitters went another scoring run in the second as they added four back-to-back goals: Gavin Reid with Jones getting the assist with 11:19 remaining, Reid with Jacob Scholz earning the assist with 10:57 remaining, Alex Wegrzyn with Reid tallying the assist with 7:34 remaining, and O'Shea with Jones recording the assist with 5:25 remaining to make the score 7-4 with LMU in the lead. Coker added their lone goal of the second quarter with 4:42 remaining to make the score 7-5 with Lincoln Memorial having the advantage going into halftime.

The first half of the third quarter consisted of back-and-forth scoring, beginning with Lincoln Memorial adding  a goal with 12:07 remaining as Shane Psaltis adding a goal, followed by a Coker goal with 11:33 remaining. LMU's Jones added a goal with 9:29 remaining, The Cobras decreased the deficit to one goal as they recorded two more goals with 9:02 remaining and 8:33 remaining. The Railsplitters extended the lead to three goals as O'Shea scored with 4:32 remaining and Domenico Moscato and added a goal with 3:39 remaining, with Psaltis getting the assist. Coker added a goal with 1:18 remaining to make the score 11-9 going into the final frame with Lincoln Memorial in the lead.

Lincoln Memorial began the scoring in the fourth quarter, as Lincoln Memorial's Noah Laurel scored his first goal of the afternoon with 13:03 remaining, followed by the Cobras adding a goal with 12:03 remaining. A minute later with 11:14 remaining, Coker added another goal to the scoreboard, and equalized the match with 4:$5 remaining. The Cobras got the lead with 2:44 remaining, and extended the lead with 2:13 remaining and 0:08 remaining to give them the 12-15 win.

Jones led the team with five points for three goals and two assists, followed by Reid and O'Shea with three points as Reid scored two goals and one assist and O'Shea added three goals. Shane Psaltis finished with a goal and an assist for two points and Wegrzyn and Laurel each had one goal and Boss, Scholz, and Burdette had one assist each.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial took 47 shots, with 26 being on goal, 8 saves, 18 successful clears, 29 ground balls, and 14 won face offs.

With the loss, LMU drops to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, and Coker improves to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.

The team's next game will be at home as they face conference opponent Emory & Henry at 3 pm at LMU Lacrosse Complex.
