Hartsville, SC – Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse falls to the Coker Cobras Saturday afternoon 10-11.
Coker got things started in the first quarter as they go on a three-goal scoring run, as they score with 8:22, 6:45, and 5:36 remaining, respectively. The Railsplitters got their first goal on the board as
Jaiden Jaynes recorded her first goal of the afternoon with 3:53 remaining, unassisted, making the score at the end of the first 1-3 with the Cobras in the lead.
The scoring began quickly in the second as Coker added their first goal of the quarter with 12:57 remaining. LMU decreased the deficit by two goals as
Riley Lang scored with 11:12 remaining, with
Briana Martinez earning the assist, and
Josie Tinnerello getting her first goal of the match with 10:18 remaining. The Cobras would then extend the lead once again as they registered two more goals with 6:51 remaining and 4:35 remaining, making the score 3-6 with Coker having the advantage.
In the third quarter, Coker once again began scoring with 13:42 remaining, but three minutes later with 10:30 remaining,
Ryan Smith recorded a goal for the Railsplitters, assisted by
Izzy Hobday. The Cobras added another goal with 8:05 remaining, and then LMU went on their first scoring run of the afternoon to make it a one goal deficit: Tinnerello with 6:09 remaining (assisted by
Abby Durkin),
Ruby Copeland with 4:22 remaining, and Smith with 3:19 remaining (assisted by Martinez). Each team added one more goal before the end of the quarter, as Coker scored one with 2:50 remaining, and the Railsplitters recorded a goal by Copeland, assisted by Hobday, with 1:39 remaining to make the score 8-9 with Coker in the lead going into the fourth.
Lincoln Memorial scored three minutes into the final frame to tie up the match, with Tinnerello tallying another goal with 12:09 remaining as Martinez got the assist. The back-and-forth scoring started with Coker adding their first goal of the fourth with 9:52 remaining, followed by LMU's Martines tying up the match with 7:12 remaining, with Tinnerello recording the assist. Coker got a last-minute goal with 45 seconds left in the game to get the 10-11 win.
Martinez and Tinnerello both led in points with four, as Tinnerello added three goals and one assist and Martinez recorded one goal and three assists. Hobday (2 assists), Copeland (2 goals), and Smith (2 goals) finished with two points. Lang and Jaynes each registered one goal and Durkin got an assist. Goalkeeper
Jovie Favati earned 14 saves on the afternoon.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial took 29 shots, with 20 being on goal, 14 saves, 15 successful clears, 14 ground balls, 15 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers.
With the loss, LMU falls to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Coker improves to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
The team is back in action on Wednesday, March 18
th as they return home to host Emory & Henry at LMU Lacrosse Complex at 6 pm.
