Softball Splits SAC Doubleheader with Coker

HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial softball continued South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday at Dorothy Neely Softball Complex, splitting a midweek doubleheader with Coker. The Cobras took the opener 4-2, but the Railsplitters responded with a strong 7-2 win in game two behind a pair of home runs from Hannah McMeen.

Coker struck first in the top of the first with a solo home run, but LMU answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. Reese Vivrette came around to score on an infield play, and Hanna Bogoski followed with an RBI single to make it 2-1 after one. Coker tied the game with a solo homer in the second and moved in front with an RBI single in the third. The Cobras added an insurance run with a solo home run in the seventh to seal the 4-2 final. Vivrette led LMU at the plate with a 2-for-4 day and a run scored, while Bogoski drove in a run. In the circle, Jasmine Kaylor worked the first 2.2 innings before Katie Fultz settled in with 4.1 innings of relief and two strikeouts.

The Railsplitters bounced back quickly in game two and controlled the nightcap from the start. McMeen opened the scoring with a first-inning solo home run, and Nicole Couvertiere followed later in the inning with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Alyssa Maples added a solo shot in the second, and after Coker pushed a run across in the fourth, McMeen delivered the biggest swing of the day with a three-run home run to extend the lead. LMU tacked on another run in the fifth on a Gracie Palmer sacrifice fly, and Brooke Strickland finished the job in the circle with a complete-game effort, allowing two runs while striking out five to secure the 7-2 win.

Lincoln Memorial returns to the road this weekend for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, March 21 in Hickory, North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with game two set for 3:00 p.m.
