Hickory, NC – Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse comes up short to #12 Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday evening 5-21.
Lincoln Memorial started things off in the match as
Domenico Moscato scored first for the Railsplitters with 13 minutes remaining, but the rest of the quarter was all L-R. The Bears tied up the match and extended their lead by six goals as they scored seven goals throughout the rest of the first: with 11:50, 10:19, 6:38, 5:53, 4:20, 4:00, and 2:55 remaining to make the score 1-7 going into the second.
The Railsplitters picked it up defensively in the second as they limited the Bears to a game-low two goals, but like the first, LMU got the first goal on the board thanks to
Beckett O'Shea with 10:42 remaining, with
Murdoch Bech tallying the assist. Lenoir-Rhyne then finished out the quarter with two goals with 9:52 remaining and 2:10 remaining, giving the Bears the 2-9 advantage into halftime.
Lincoln Memorial doubled their goal count in the third quarter with two goals, but not before Lenoir-Rhyne would add three more goals to the box score as they scored with 14:05 remaining, 13:53 remaining, and 13:19 remaining. O'Shea then recorded a brace for the Railsplitters as he tallied another goal with 9:00 remaining. The pattern repeated itself with the Bears scoring three more goals with 7:48, 5:21, and 4:22 remaining and LMU scoring the last goal of the quarter with 0:55 remaining by Burdette to make the score 4-15 going into the final frame.
L-R started out strong in the fourth with a four goal scoring run with 14:10 remaining, 12:49 remaining, 12:18 remaining, and 10:56 remaining. The Railsplitters recorded their last goal of the match with 9:04 remaining by
Grant House, with
Gavin Reid recording the assist. The Bears solidified their victory with two more goals at 7:05 remaining and 6:01 remaining to give Lenoir-Rhyne the 5-21 victory.
O'Shea led the Railsplitters in points with two points for two goals, and House, Moscato, and Burdette each scored one goal and Bech added an assist.
Jenson Jones led the team in shots with four and Moscato was the team-leader in shots on goal with three along with
Alex Wegrzyn.
Mark Alarcon led in ground balls with seven, and three different Railsplitters had team-high two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Connor Fitzgibbon recorded 16 saves in the afternoon.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 20 shots, with 13 being on goal, 15 successful cleats, 21 ground balls, and 4 won face offs.
With the loss, LMU drops to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play and L-R improves to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SAC.
The team will return home on Saturday, March 28
th as they host UAH at 1 pm.
