Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse battled to a victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Saturday afternoon 9-8.
The Chargers began the scoring quickly as they added two goals on the scoreboard with 14:14 and 10:27. With UAH being the only team to score in the opening frame, the Railsplitters go into the second quarter falling 0-2.
LMU goes into the second quarter with intensity as they decrease their deficit by one goal with 14:16 remaining, thanks to
Scott Triolo scoring. The back-and-forth scoring began with Alabama-Huntsville recording their first goal of the second with 12:37 remaining. Four minutes later, LMU's
Jenson Jones tallied his first goal of the match with 8:49 remaining, with
Alex Wegrzyn earning the assist. The Chargers had the last say in the second as they added their fourth goal with 2:24 remaining, making the score 4-2 going into halftime with UAH in the lead.
The Railsplitters started the second half strong as they added a pair of goals with 13:45 remaining and 8:30 remaining, with
Domenico Moscato scoring off of a Psaltis assist and Jones scoring off of a Moscato assist. Two minutes later with 6:49 remaining, the Chargers added their first goal of the third, and LMU tied the match back up with 4:28 remaining with Wegrzyn adding a goal. UAH scored the last goal of the quarter with 30 seconds remaining, giving the Chargers the 5-6 lead going into the final frame.
Alabama-Huntsville scored the first goal of the fourth with 14:30 remaining, but then the Railsplitters scored four back-to-back goals to get the two goal lead, beginning with Moscato with 13:27 remaining, and Wegrzyn to follow with 9:03 remaining. Moscato scored the final two goals for Lincoln Memorial with 7:49 remaining, assisted by Reid, and with 1:20 remaining, assisted by Psaltis. The Chargers scored a last minute goal with 0:18 remaining, but it was not enough to tie up the match to give Lincoln Memorial the 9-8 victory.
Moscato led the day in points with five for four goals and one assist, and Wegrzyn followed with three points for two goals and one assist. Psaltis and Jones each finished with two points, as Jones tallied two goals and Psaltis recorded two assists. Reid recorded one assist and Triolo added a goal.
Reid led the match in shots with ten, and Reid and Moscato led with six shots on goal.
Brixten McKenzie led in ground balls with three and
Henry Boss led in caused turnovers with two. McKenzie led in face offs with six won face offs. Goalkeeper
Connor Fitzgibbon got the win on the afternoon with 14 saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 37 shots, with 25 being on goal, 23 successful clears, and none won face offs.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 6-4 overall and the Chargers drop to 3-10 overall.
The team will play their last non conference match on the road as they visit Thomas More on Wednesday, April 1
st at 6 pm.
