Hickory, NC – Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse falls to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears Saturday afternoon 9-24.
The first quarter was mostly L-R, as the Bears went on a 6-goal scoring run, as they scored at 11:41, 10:59, 9:24, 9:09, 6:31, and 5:22 remaining. The Railsplitters put their first goal on the scoreboard with 4:41 remaining by
Jaiden Jaynes, with
Ryan Smith earning the assist. Lincoln Memorial's
Briana Martinez scored two minutes later with 2:25 remaining, assisted by
Josie Tinnerello. Lenoir-Rhyne extended the lead back to five goals with a goal with 29 seconds left in the quarter, making the score 2-7 going into the second with the Bears in the lead.
L-R scored two goals within the first minute of play in the second, as they recorded goals with 14:22 remaining and 14:12 remaining. Less than a minute later, the Bears increased the goal count to 10 as they added another goal with 13:29 remaining. The Railsplitter's first goal of the second came from
Izzy Hobday with 12:02 remaining, unassisted. The Bears followed up with another goal with 11:18 remaining, but Smith responded with a free position goal with 9:34 remaining to give Lincoln Memorial their fourth goal. The Bears then went on a 3-goal scoring run to increase the lead to ten goals as they scored with 8:55 remaining, 7:41 remaining, and 4:58 remaining.
Ruby Copeland broke the L-R's run as she scored with 43 seconds left in the quarter, making the score 5-14 going into halftime with Lenoir-Rhyne having the advantage.
The Bears came out of halftime strong, as they scored five back-to-back goals at 10:25 remaining, 9:04 remaining, 8:10 remaining, 6:00 remaining, and 4:28 remaining. Tinnerello broke the scoring streak as she scored her first goal of the match with 2:52 remaining, assisted by Martinez. Lenoir-Rhyne added the last goal of the quarter with 1:08 remaining, making the score 6-20 going into the final frame.
The Railsplutters scored a game-high three goals in the fourth, but Lenoir-Rhyne started out the scoring with 14:39 remaining, followed by Smith recording another free position goal with 11:14 remaining. The Bears responded two minutes later with a goal, then Lincoln Memorial scored their last two goals of the match with 6:58 remaining and 5:19 remaining, with Martinez scoring the first goal and Tinnerello recording the second with
Abby Durkin earning the assist. The Bears then did the same and added two more goals to their total with 2:39 remaining and 0:21 remaining to give L-R the victory 9-24.
Martinez, Smith, and Tinnerello all led with three points each as they each scored two goals and one assist. Hobday, Jaynes, and Copeland each recorded one goal each and Durkin added an assist.
Martinez and Tinnerello led in shots with three each, as Martinez led with three shots on goal. Five different Railsplitters had team-leading one ground ball and Brooklyn Walls led in caused turnovers with two. Goalkeepers
Jovie Favati and
Emily Mirabile both earned time in goal, with Favati tallying eight saves and Mirabile recording two.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 14 shots, with ten being on goal, 9 successful clears, five ground balls, and nine draw controls.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play and L-R improves to 4-5 overall and 4-0 in the SAC.
The team will continue to be on the road as they make the trip to Wise, VA on Wednesday, April 1
st to face UVA Wise at 3 pm.
