Newberry, SC – Lincoln Memorial women's soccer falls to the Newberry Wolves Saturday afternoon 0-1.
Both teams battled as both teams were able to create scoring opportunities, including LMU shots from
Ally Bevins,
Mary Eunice, and
Norah Alcorn, but neither team was able to get the ball in the back of the net. Goalkeeper
Ari Frey made a couple key saves in the first half to limit the Wolves' chances, leaving the match scoreless at halftime.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were quiet, as
Paige Branam took the first shot of the half in the 60
th minute. Newberry took the lead in the 65
th minute, scored by Altorfer, to make the score 1-0.
Despite the Railsplitters getting five more chances at goal throughout the remainder of the half, Lincoln Memorial could not score, giving Newberry the win.
Paige Branam led the team with three shots and three shots on goal.
Ari Frey played all 90 minutes in goal and earned seven saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial took ten shots, with seven being on goal, recorded eight corner kicks, and seven saves.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial falls to 2-2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play, and Newberry improves to 2-3-1 overall and a conference record of 1-2.
The team will have a few days of rest as their next match will be on Wednesday, September 23
rd in Greenville, TN against Tusculum at 5:00 pm.
