Women's Soccer Draws Match To Clayton State

 
Morrow, GA – Lincoln Memorial women's soccer draws the Clayton State Lakers 1-1 Thursday evening.

The first 20 minutes of the first half were quiet, with possession going back and forth and LMU slightly out shooting the Lakers 3-1. Clayton State striked first in the 26th minute as they scored the first goal of the match, scored by Aniyah Vargas.

The Railsplitters respond quickly, as Riley Miller scored off a free kick from Elizabeth Butler in the 27th minute.

There were minimal opportunities for each throughout the remainder of the half, leaving the match tied at 1-1 going into halftime.

Both teams created scoring chances early, with the Lakers' shots hitting the crossbar and saved by Cooke and Camden Prosser recording a shot on goal in the first two minutes.

The Railsplitters continued to push offensively as they outshot Clayton 6-4 through the second half, but were unable to capitalize on opportunities, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Clayton State.

Miller scored the only goal for the Railsplitters, with Butler tallying the assist. Prosser led the team in shots and shots on goal with two. Goalkeeper Emma Cooke played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial dominated in shots (13-9), shots on goal (8-6), and corner kicks (2-1), while the Lakers came out on top in saves (5-7).

With the draw, LMU goes to 0-1-2 overall and Clayton State goes 1-0-1 overall.

The team will have a short turnaround, as they travel to Milledgeville, GA to face Georgia College on Saturday, September 5th at 5:00 pm.
